NFR What Are You Drinking?

I picked up this beauty at the distillery in Speyside back in 2012 (I worked for the brand at the time). I have only about a dram or so left in the bottle, typically only enjoying a pour on special occasions. If the Broncos go the Big Dance, I think I’m going to throw the cork away.

This is a beautifully crafted malt whisky. Big and rich, with notes of dried stone fruits and dark chocolate. Matured exclusively in Spanish sherry casks. I’ll be sad to see it go, but after all, whisk(e)y is for drinking.
And water is for fighting…

I recently tried to do the all in bourbon thing as I had previously done with scotch back in my tech bro days. I was all in for months and spent tons on rare drams...and hated them all mostly. The wheated single barrels were good but for me not nearly as drinkable as a good Irish which for me will always be the gold standard.

I really don't understand the bourbon craze. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the category and there are some exceptional examples, but I think it lacks the depth and character of other categories such as scotch. I love Irish whiskey as well, but scotch will always be what whisk(e)y is all about for me.

I will be pouring these into boxes so i can swill them from a paper bag on a park bench…
A paper bag and straw work just as well! Plus you can areate as you go!! 😄

Just saw this. I'm headed to Montalcino in a couple of weeks and can't wait to visit a few Brunello wineries.
Envious...One of the many great places I went when in Tuscany. Can't go wrong there, lots of wine to taste. Be sure to visit La Fortezza, sort of touristy but worth it for the views, a couple hours and a lunch. The whole La Rocca was pretty cool.
Enjoy
