Weekend in a Firetower

Very Nice! What a date night!

I had to do a Google search on that place cuz I couldn't believe the Forest Service was now making those towers so posh🤯:)

My family stayed in a few of those back in the day. One we shared with the biggest pack rat I'd ever seen. In another, the FS neglected to mention they'd pulled out the wood stove

Musta been awesome. Well done.

It’s privately owned!

saw that….the name was partially visible in one of the pic’s….never knew the name of that monstrous forest fire in the early 1900’s

thanks for sharing.

and how was the stargazing?
So the stargazing didn't happen as planned. The roof is made of something they call "smart glass". It's a mechanical device that allows the glass to be clear or frosted with the push of a button. Unfortunately, it was in the "frosted" position when we went through the last freeze/thaw cycle and it's frozen in that frosted position right now.

I could be happy living in that fire tower. Seriously.

Did you have full access to the snow cat?
I could too!

The snow cat was just our ride to and from. If you had snowmobiles you could take yourself in and out. Part of the allure to me was that we got dropped off and then you were on your own. A person could snowshoe or ski their way out, but it was a poke to get in there. I did bring gators and the appropriate clothing to get back down to the trailhead should something have gone wrong. I also had my inreach but there was no cell service.

very cool.
We've been up several fire watch towers, our fave on Slate Peak at the top of Hart Pass, where the retiree who was on volunteer watch invited us up for a story filled hour while we soaked in the amazing views.

Never thought about living in a fire tower, now a lighthouse, absolutely!!!! Would love to be a lighthouse keeper. Tillamook Rock Light anyone?
