Wading boot laces

Does anyone have any good lace suggestions? I tried out the yakoda guide laces and they didnt even last 4 months before one of the laces split in two.

I also precut my laces after comparing them to a pair of boots (I don’t do every pair of boots I own, figure it’s close enough for the others), but after cutting I make sure to singe the ends with a lighter, much easier to thread them through eyelets and such.

I recently bought 100' of 1,000# paracord for $11 to replace the 500# cord that came with the new awning for the Casa. This stuff is recommended for shoelaces as it has a dense 32 strand outer cord which is highly abrasion resistant and a 12 strand inner cord for strength. Surprisingly at 4mm it is smaller in diameter than the 500# stuff but twice as strong. I haven't actually used it for shoelaces yet as I still have about half a dozen fresh pair in my gear bag but it is really nice stuff for rigging up the awning. The minute you touch it you will realize that it is a better product than standard common parachute cord. My math says 100' will make 10 pair of 60'' long shoestrings for $11, enough to last a long time.

A caveat-standard metal line tensioners don't work well on this stuff when using it on a tent or tarp, the holes are too big for the small diameter cord. I made hardwood tensioners with holes just barely big enough for the cord to fit through and they work far better than the metal ones. Made with hardwood dowel stock and sprayed with clear acrylic they should last a long time.

Wax yer laces… 😉
The Obenaufs ones I recommended come pre-impregnated with wax. I have two pair. Neither have quit. The oldest set is on wading boots and is at least 15 years old. Heavy use. The wax on those is gone now but those are some good laces. Boots are one thing I really want to be able to rely on.
