I game on PS5 and SteamDeck in my down time, especially during the winter. Exclusively single player, non-online games. So you probably aren't interested in what I have share.

I should go first. Just a very basic pc setup. I greatly enjoy flight simulator, and call of duty primarily. I even have a Twitch. I started doing it for 2 reasons which was my career, and saw an opportunity to hang out with my children. It all started cause Tori said she could beat me in N64 Golden Eye! I felt that crossing the line. 6 Years later we all still have our Wednesday night "Stooge" group with my daughters and other friends.
When my children irritate me, it is really satisfying to destroy them on Call of Duty! LOL

What games do you play Evan?

I enjoy single player RPGs. I've been playing the heck out of Baldur's Gate 3 (and played the heck out of the original when it came out back in the day. Looking forward to Avowed.

I play on an Xbox X now, because I got tired of having to constantly upgrade my PC to play the latest games.

My wife caught a cold so I bought her Diablo 4 today on PS5. Shes enjoying it.

Well I have a long backlog I chip away at. I start a game, play through the story, then move on to the next.

A few franchises I really enjoy:

Dark Souls: includes Elden Ring, Sekiro, Bloodborne and the DS trilogy. Just perfection as far as gameplay goes.

Yakuza/Like a Dragon: some of the best storytelling in any medium I've ever experienced. Fun gameplay, and just an unbeatable delivery of story, humor, and character building.

Final fantasy: An often flawed, but great standard for role playing games. Currently going through and playing/replaying all the old ones going back 30yrs

Currently playing:

SteamDeck: Final Fantasy XIII

PS5: Lies of P, which is a Dark Souls like game, but as a very dark retelling of the Pinocchio story. Loving it.

Man, I tried with Baldur's Gate. It checks every box for me, yet I got in to Act 3 when I finally admitted I wasn't enjoying myself 😔 still glad I tried. It's an impressively built game and I totally get why it's as loved as it is.

Big assed PC, 3900 hours in Destiny 2, Far Cry 6.5.4.3. Stalker, Div. 2, and it goes on... Something to do in the winter.

This is a good example of the fun we have on our Stooge nights. Warning, if you find obnoxious nerdy behavior repulsive, do NOT click.

Also, everyone is drinking and or smoking!

After considerable nagging from grandchildren and successfully evading the challenge on the basis of being old and and shitty at playing video games I relented and agreed to play who I thought might be the least competent.

After about 5 minutes she looked at me and said "you're right papa...you're really no good at this".

More recently I tried my son's VR system (he's an IT guy). I should have remembered that the old Mech Warrior used to make me somewhat nauseous...the VR system fucked me up for at least 24 hours.

Yeah I can't do VR. Way outside my wheelhouse to say the least.

I like Galaga. I go to the arcade with my kids. We play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles together and I still think it is fun. I am old.

Also—Capcom Bowling! I only wish I could find a bar with Capcom Bowling nearby.

Never got into gaming. But, I am a flight simulator fan. Like your setup DanielOcean

I have never played a game. Oh well...

Both of my daughters recently built their own PCs from scratch for playing games.

We put an old PS4 downstairs for the kids. I'm able to play Minecraft with them, anything else is too fast for me. I could play Kirby when my son was little, I tapped out about the time he and his friends started to play Mortal Combat.

Back a few many years ago . . . I came home from work and observed that my then small Son was bummed-out. When I asked why, he said "Mom is too busy to play Mario with me." "Well, I'll play it with you in just a minute." He looked up at me with sad eyes and sincerely said: "Thanks Dad, but you suck." And he was correct . . . still is.

I think one thing a lot of people who (understandably) aren't in to videogames don't know is how varied of an experience you can have as there's so, so many different types of games. There's competitive online games like what @DanielOcean does with Call of Duty (and that's where a massive portion of the industry makes its money), then sandboxes like Minecraft, all the way to the types that I'm in to which are more like long form movies as a means of storytelling where you play a character in the story. It's turned in to a massive media industry that has far surpassed blockbuster movies.

Video Game Industry:
  • Global Revenue in 2022: Estimates vary slightly depending on the source, but the global video game market generated roughly $180-217 billion USD in revenue in 2022.
  • Continued Growth: The video game industry has seen consistent growth over the past decade, driven by factors like mobile gaming, online gaming, and esports.
Blockbuster Movie Industry (Global Box Office):
  • Global Box Office Revenue in 2022: According to Statista, the global box office revenue in 2022 was approximately $42.3 billion USD.
