USPS inefficiency with a simple shipment

A certain president appointed the Postmaster General specifically to fvck up the postal system with one objective being that mailed in ballots wouldn't arrive in time to be counted. Maybe other delays are just unintended consequences of the intention to fvck things up.
He also changed the service standards for overnight delivery for local area to allow more time thus improving delivery scores during his tenure. Instead of three day service outside of local service areas it is now five days. I sent my Redington rod in for evaluation (replacement) and it took 5 days. 98118 to 98110 used to be overnight.

Many of the ills of USPS were inflicted WELL BEFORE the current sitting President or Administration . Decisions to shoot themselves in the foot are quite old and well documented.
Cross town mail traveling to several cities is annoying for sure. Can’t wait for Oregon mail to be sent, sorted, sent back out from Denver or Salt Lake City… 😳😏

You're seeing more and more of these "mail delivery" type services just actually being guys who are taking what's in the packages and replacing em with various crap!!!!

You honestly believed that it was due to East Coast employees not knowing where Idaho was?
I do.

Remember that was the 1970's. And it was what a postal employee told me, in response to my complaint.

I moved from California to Idaho back and forth several times during the 1970's. During that period of time, I never met anybody from California that had been to Idaho. At least, they knew approximately where it was located.

Lot fewer people. Lot less travel.

Lot less people interested in the outdoors.

REI had ONE store in Seattle. The membership in REI is 25 million, while my membership number is just over 100,000.

Hardly anybody fly-fished. Fly Fisherman just started publishing. And outside of downhill skiing and Sun Valley nobody knew much about Idaho. No National Parks in Idaho to draw travelers. And the license plate pushed potatoes without even a sketch of the mountains.

I really miss those days.

I feel like I'm one of the only ones without a whole lot of USPS complaints. Even with my previous job at ECHO where we shipped out hundreds of packages per week. Just never really ran into many issues. I think I've had more personal issues at my home address with FedEx than my entirety of working there, or here at home, with USPS.

It's not perfect, but things always seem to work out. Maybe because I'm so close to a major hub, but I just never find much to complain about.

I strongly dislike FEDEX. Many times the Pony Express would be faster and more reliable.

USPS has almost always been reliable and on time. One exception - I paid extra for guaranteed 2 day delivery. It took 4 days. I went to USPS, showed them and they refunded all my money in cash.

At my current job, we paid a premium to UPS a few weeks ago for guaranteed overnight service from Georgia to Illinois. Took four days, which is longer than ground should've been.

The name "Idaho" has no actual linguistic meaning and was originally a completely made-up word.
Its origin and the myths surrounding it trace back to the 1860s:
  • The Lobbyist's Lie: In 1860, a mining lobbyist and speculator named George M. Willing proposed "Idaho" as the name for a new territory in the Rocky Mountains. He claimed it was a Native American Shoshone word meaning "Gem of the Mountains".
  • Discovery of the Hoax: Congress adopted the name for the region that is now Colorado, only to discover a few days later that "Idaho" was a fabricated word. Congress revoked the name and named the region Colorado instead.
  • Permanent Naming:
The name remained popular among miners and settlers in the Pacific Northwest, particularly because they loved the translation "Gem of the Mountains". In 1863, Congress officially designated the territory that is now the state of Idaho.

I think the USPS is my favorite government agency. Great service at a great price.

i am ok with the usps. when we get pkgs, the fellow gets out of his van, and walks it to our door and rings the doorbell.
Same. Goes all the way to my door. FedEx usually tosses it in my driveway. and I'm not joking (this is over several years and multiple different drivers). I've had more packages left in the middle of my driveway than at my door by them.

I generally have no issues with the postal service as far as using their services. Prices have gone up but that's to be expected. I don't agree with fucking it up. I think it needs to be run efficiently and streamlined I'm fashion like any government agency. It's about as American an institution there is. I have gotten mixed service from their employees. Some are worthless angry assholes. Yet a town away they are amazing and do about anything they can to help you.. That's not the agency, that's a personnel problem. Either way I think the US Postal service is a good thing to have running. As much as I'm generally in favour of questioning what certain agencies do and judge their worth this is not one I question or see the bloat. I'm sure it's there. It's a government agency there is bound to be waste when you aren't bound by a bottom line. It doesn't seem crazy or out of line though from what I observe.
