So a lot of the time I was on the lookout for birds, given no fishing was happening. They have so many fun birds to see, here's a crimson rosella
Two species of cormorant:
Egrets
different kind of egret
Rainbow lorikeet
Egret and stilt, these guys were in a salt marsh about a mile from where we were staying. It made for a fun pre-christmas morning walk, taking photos of birds with my dad and son, seeing who got the best shot, or who saw something different etc etc
Crested pidgeon

I lived in Australia for most of my teens, and never saw a wild koala, though where we stayed this time is well protected from dogs and vehicles. They were doing a koala survey in the village (Sandy Point), and I joined a wildlife group on facebook for this place and asked where we might see some koalas, and within about ten minutes a bunch of addresses came up. It was really remarkable to see so many of them! And to be honest probably one of the times facebook was really great

So many good beaches!
This one's called Squeaky Beach on account of the granite sand squeaking when you slide your foot across the dry sand. Had a swim here, and in the surf there were schools of whiting lurking in the holes and troughs. If I had a handline....they, whiting, make for really good eats...If I had a surfboard there were some nice right handed breaks off the north side

Anyway, it was a really good trip. The natural and unique things I was oblivious too when I was a kid seem so obvious given how foreign they are to what we see in the PNW...
