Putin doesn't exactly look like a genius, and doesn't appear very savvy here 10 days in.

Tank your entire economy in 5 days, collapse your currency, and with the exception of a handful of shithole countries, have the whole world shut you out of international commerce.

He might even outright lose a ground war, or be unable to sustain an occupation successfully.
If Russia ends up going back to the days of long lines to buy bread and no toilet paper on the shelves, he'll be over. Because nothing makes a country fall faster than millions of pissed off women without TP.

Saw that myself, first hand.... 😉

Never, ever suggest paper towels...

:ROFLMAO:

Tanking the economy actually works in his favor. Apparently, he moved a lot of his money into foreign currencies, just before starting all this. That money is now worth an insane amount more, in rubles, and he can buy up everything in Russia.

sorry sanctions aren't saving lives. i don't see sanctions mattering until most Ukrainians are dead and Russia has uncontested control of the country . Then Putin will threaten the next country in line and will threaten the west with nuclear war if we interfere. then the next country then the next country. Sonner or later we will have to confront Putin's nuclear threat. now or later it doesn't matter. The threat will always be there and Putin will continue to use it to get what he wants. The only question is for what countries freedom will we risk nuclear war?

Sergiy Stakhovsky, a Ukrainian tennis pro in the fight, just said that exact same thing to Jim Acosta.46DA9344-99F6-4227-A0CD-8C012D27D0B4.jpeg

Raytheon is a great patriotic company who has saved thousands of American lives.

The Raytheon company is currently facing a $1 billion lawsuit for allegedly overbilling the Federal government for a weather sensor production project. The production process encountered significant delays, and the company may have improperly calculated costs.

Raytheon attempted to halt the lawsuit because the whistleblower’s claims referred to a generalized pattern of alleged fraud rather than specific instances of it, however a court sided with the whistleblower and allowed the legal proceedings to continue.

Raytheon is a business...

We're now in Cold War 2 between Russia and the US, with a shooting war between Russia and Eastern Europe, and anyone planning on a quick rebound of the Russian market is smoking skunk weed.
The sanctions that have been put in place are cratering their economy so badly the Russian stock market is locked down for the sole reason to prevent a massive sell off.
What had been a massive infusion of investment capitol from the west is evaportaing by the minute as the 'we're outta here' pullout accelerates of companies such as Ford, General Motors, Boeing, BP, Exxon..the list goes on and on.
Does anyone really think if and when the Ukraine mess is over with, which may take years, thse companies will decide to jump back into an economy run by Putin if they see no fundamental changes to protect those investments?
Or that there is an immediate 'off' switch to the sanctions if Russia did pull out of the Ukraine?
When Putin had tanks drive into Ukraine, Putin concurrently drove Russia's economy over a cliff.

Regarding stocks. We've witnessed the most abberative run-up in the stock market in history, where the fundamental of PE ratios so treasured by Warren Buffet have little meaning anymore, as personal investors hve not been trading for returns, they have been betting on price per share jumps.
Recall 2008, when the stock market fell 49%, wiping out the savings of folks just about to retire, a time when one year money market deposits had 7% yields. There is a reason why investing fundamentals is based on personal time windows, more aggressive when younger, more conservative when older.
Thing about history, it has a way of repeating itself at some point.

IMHO you are so correct about Cold War II. We have seen the same issue of Russia invading other countries before and the same issue of sanctions vs confronting Russia directly. The decision of not confronting Russia and 'allowing' Russia to occupy new territory was better than a nuclear war.

Then there was the Cuban Missile Crisis - DEFCON 2. Highest level ever! Different Russian leaders. I would not want Putin to be the Russian leader at that time... That is for sure...

Russia will be economically challenged for many years if not decades to come.I feel sorry for the Russian population and what they will have to endure...

General Dynamics makes the new STRYKER based M-SHORAD system just coming online. It's a " multi capable, highly mobile Short Range Air Defense System".
Basically the thing has Stiingers, Hellfires, and an antiaircraft gun. It's capable of using several different missile systems.

Also, their stock always has a steady ROI.

One of the more, ummm, shocking?, revealing , things was catching the video of the Russians using Chechens as shock troops to take an airfield.

As I recall, Putin tried to eliminate the whole of Chechnya when they had a resistance effort going on. Now, years later, like the Borg they've been assimilated into the Russian battle plans again.

I watched this lecture a few years ago, and it is really interesting to watch again now. The perspective Mearsheimer presents is a cold calculus that ignores the aspirations of Ukrainians to be independent. Still, it helps to understand why this war is happening. Putin's goal now is to wreck Ukraine and annex the strategic pieces he wants for Russia. Start video at 2:00

I was wondering about use of drones in Ukraine. This helps me understand more:

A couple of captures from other sources:

"In better times, Ukrainian drone enthusiasts flew their gadgets into the sky to photograph weddings or race drones for fun. Now some are risking their lives by forming a volunteer drone force to help their country repel the Russian invasion."

"Ukraine's military has begun enlisting civilian drone pilots to help with surveillance in the effort to repel Russia's invasion. Armed forces leaders have asked enthusiasts to donate aircraft and, if they are experienced flyers, to volunteer as pilots. "

University of Chicago students circulating a letter calling for the cancellation of John Mearsheimer over “Putinism,” “anti-Ukrainian ideology,” and spreading Russian disinformation like that there was a coup in 2014 and it included fascists.

I just read the link below before seeing your post. I’ve got some time; I’ll watch that.

The New Yorker article works him over pretty good.
Mearsheimer is upsetting to some, because he is an advocate of the U.S. making long-term strategic foreign policy decisions based on a "Great Powers" philosophy. Anyway, his viewpoint is not popular now that Putin reactivated a shooting war in Ukraine.
