The EU, US and their allies have agreed to cut off a number of Russian banks from the main international payment system, Swift.
In the coming days this will include removing "selected Russian banks from the Swift messaging system".
"This is intended to cut off these institutions from international financial flows, which will massively restrict their global operations," a German government spokesman said.
Russia is particularly reliant on the Swift system for its oil and gas exports, which its economy is highly dependent on.

Now would be a good time to sabotage Russian fuel production and distribution. Hint, hint.

Or have Putin flying in his personal jet over the ocean and do not tell him the tank is only a 1/4 full...

Reading that the Russians are being slowed by lack of supplies. They figured it'd be over in 72 hours, based on their intelligence, and therefore there's going to be a lag time wise before more fuel and food arrive.
Also seeing a number of NATO planes in the area, refuelers and spy planes it seems, likely giving Ukraine’s government a heads up on movement, numbers, and types of Russian activity.

The other thing thats interesting and different is NATO is openly and without any attempt at being covert, sending weapons that will be used to kill Russian soldiers.

This isn't how things typically go here, it's not typically advertised like this. The message seems to be...fuck you...

Putin has lost a lot already when countries openly telegraph their intentions to send weapons to kill his soldiers.

This doesn't look like weakness form the west, now does it?
Not at all. The west sees this as a giant step backwards. And they're betting that Putin isn't planning to stop with Ukraine.

It may be, but I'm thinking we stay out of Russian soil, covert or not. With Swift and the other sanctions slowly choking the economy, the Russians ( both oligarchs and regular people) will tire of Putin's shit pretty quick.
Wildcard is China of course, but I think they may have tipped their hand on this already by abstaining in the UN Security Council vote. China plays the long game well, and stands to gain by Russian loss of prestige and influence, and can be counted on to act in their own interest.
The Russians may still take some of Ukraine’s cities, but they've already lost in more ways than they planned I think.

It has to give China something to seriously think about with how quickly the world came together and how quickly and thorough the responses/actions have been against Russia and Putin.

This probably paraphrased quote is attributed to Einstein but the concept was put forth just after the atomic bombs were used:

"I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

And in a crazy contrast, I think I will have a grandson born today.
Congratulations. New life in family life's biggest joy!!!

Not that I disagree with the promotion of civil unrest to make political change in this case but has the US learned enough from (many, including recent) past failures for this type of policy to be successful in Russia now? How many times has that policy been undertaken but miscalculated only to later lose interest or have it opposed by an incoming administration, abandoning its partners to be oppressed and "cleansed"?

Yeah our track record isn't good and we often arm our future enemies but regimen change has limited numbers of great opportunity. Putin is the devil we know. Still a devil though. A shadow war can always be denied.

Maybe that's why the world is the huge mess it is.
I believe the following has a direct application for America and the west.
In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.(G) 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan,(H) as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
a parable about authentic faith, religious tolerance and loving your enemy. it has direct application to people who call themselves christians, since it is their parable. those who don't probably won't know from reading your quote is that it is the enemy - the despised and feared - who showed authenticity, love, mercy and strength. jews and samaritans were divided at that time by a hatred and distrust similar to what now divides americans politically . i'd be willing to bet that division has had more to do with what emboldened putin to strike than any other factor. that's our weakness. it's been encouraging in this thread to not see so much of it.

nations don't have morals or character, people do.

Some here have mentioned Ambassador McFaul. A few days ago McFaul predicted that an invasion of Ukraine would end Putin’s regime but it would take yeas. I agree with Ambassador McFaul but I believe the downfall of Putin could happen in months not years. Two critical mistakes. Putin under estimated how NATO would come together and more importantly he along with the rest of the world have under estimated the Ukrainians and the level of resistance to the invasion coming from the entire population. The later is going to increase the amount of support Ukraine receives from the rest of the world and result in the end of Putin. Good riddance.

It seems giant stones is a trait found in all sorts of Ukrainian people, young and old. I am in awe to be honest. 70 somethings volunteering for service. Women picking up guns and standing their ground. City mayors willing to hit the streets and fight back. A president inspiring not only his people but the entire world. Incredible.

Prior to all this I couldn't have picked the Ukrainian president out of a lineup but God damn I find it impossible not to get fired up watching this guy.

"I don't need a ride. I need ammo." Fucking amazing.
