Ukrainians are such a proud people. Proud of their heritage, proud to be Ukrainian, proud to be adopting Western-style democracy, and proud to be defending their country while knowing it could mean their lives. They truly are setting an example for the rest of the world.

There are a number of stories starting to come out. I hope there are a lot more. I have seen interviews with a 73 year-old man going to the armed forces and getting his Kalashnikov rifle and young housewives doing the same. People in opposition to the current president, Zelenskyy, are joining forces with their fellow country people and appreciate all that is being accomplished by Zelenskyy. Ukrainians are traveling back to Ukraine from other countries to defend their homeland.

The stories of courage and defiance I have been reading are simply incredible. These are some absolutely amazing people who deserve so much better than this invasion.

Their president is inspiring. Talk about optimism and courage against tough odds. Their former president is carrying a rifle and in the fray with the infantry. That's leadership.
 
It was quite interesting listening to Adam Kinsinger's take on what is happening and what he thinks should be done. Now there is a patriot. Not going to try to paraphrase his remarks but I am sure they can be easily found.
 
There is stuff one just can not makeup. Prompted by the war on Ukraine, Sweden and Finland are now talking about joining NATO. Putin's response are threats of political and military consequences:

I was reading some articles earlier today regarding the cyber part of this.
Groups like Anonymous are pledging to attack Russia, ransom ware groups are promising to attack back.
Lots of moving parts in this unfortunate situation for Ukraine.

point blank. we need to supply Ukraine with the offensive weapons of war to kick the Russians out of their country and we need to do it NOW even under the risk of nuclear holocaust. We have to. it is the only moral decision.
 
Hey, while I think of it, last week 4 B52's landed in either Ukraine or Poland. Anyone tracking what happened with them since ?

I think it's rather silly to think that Putin is going to stop with Ukraine. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.
Kasikstan. The list goes on. I hope I am wrong and I pray for the people of Ukraine. My brain tells me we need to be blasting the hell out of the Russian troops but I don't know if that's the wise thing to do or not. I guess we needed to know months ago how important Ukraine is to us. If Ukraine isn't important to us then who else also isn't important to us?

I think if I was trained and in shape I might be on my way to Ukraine on my own.

I was wondering today if that would have any impact on a leader like Putin, if people from other countries actually went in support of Ukraine.
 
Kick Russia off SWIFT, the dominant system for global financial transactions! At present only Germany, Italy, and Hungary are opposed. Do it soon!

Kiev can't hold out much longer. NATO needs to make plans to support the Ukrainian resistance with money, medicine, food, weapons, intelligence. The Ukrainian government will need to be hosted from NATO countries.

Europe needs to rapidly diversify its energy exports, petroleum and natural gas. Germany should reactivate its nuclear power plants.

Few hours out of date. Germany and Italy "open" to it but haven't said they're in favor of it, for whatever that's worth... I think Hungary and Cyprus are still opposed.

Maybe that's why the world is the huge mess it is.
I believe the following has a direct application for America and the west.

I'm pretty out of my element with such things, but what is the downside of kicking Russia off of SWIFT?

Why would any country who condemns this invasion be hesitant to support such a move? I keep thinking they must be worried about something but I'm not sure what that would be.

Ain't that the truth. I keep imagining which of our leaders over my adult life would be standing in the streets, inspiring our country, in the middle of an invasion. As of yet I can't think of any.
