Right, back to fly fishing. What weight of floating line should I pack to entice dnieper river ASP with foam poppers? Should I wear a flak jacket/helmet?
We are a fly fishing forum. You get that right? Simmer down a bit.
I would be interested to see what happens if the mods just apply temporary bans, liberally, instead of closing threads. There's a lot of diversity on this forum that I don't usually get exposed to and I like hearing other peoples perspectives. It's unfortunate when threads get shut down, because of one or two people losing their cool. I think the common interest/passion (fishing) tends to make the conversations less ridiculous than what you get elsewhere on the internet.
Just depends on the thread and behavior in the thread....

Hoping to see Finland join NATO soon 🤞 been a long time due... Let's see those 64 F-35's they ordered streaking over Moscow.
Trust me, you don’t want that. It’s obviously too late for level heads to prevail. A lot of good people are going to die and we can only hope that things don’t go nuclear. What you’re about to see is going to make “ gun violence” look like kid stuff. One decent sized artillery shell can kill everyone within a 100 yd radius. And civilian casualties are typically far greater than military casualties.

I said my thoughts on the subject, if it does go nuclear working at Boeing near Seattle my troubles will end in a flash. I’m out!

A tin hat & lead underwear should be adequate

Normally markets price future events into the price well beforehand. Russian markets are down 30% today due to the invasion. YIKES! That is going to affect a lot of the general populace right now! The Russian ruble has been weak for sometime. Now the Russian ruble has plunged to a record low!

Other economies/markets are down and gas/natural gas prices are surging. This incursion/war is affecting us all. But not like the huge effect on Russians.

Not a pretty picture by any means.

The big unknown is what's China going to do, Invade Taiwan or stand down , all powers involved have nukes a problem we didn't face in Iraq or Afghanistan .
For what it's worth Russia has vowed not to use nukes unless Russian land is attacked. Again, for what it's worth.
I think it's rather silly to think that Putin is going to stop with Ukraine. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.
Kasikstan. The list goes on. I hope I am wrong and I pray for the people of Ukraine. My brain tells me we need to be blasting the hell out of the Russian troops but I don't know if that's the wise thing to do or not. I guess we needed to know months ago how important Ukraine is to us. If Ukraine isn't important to us then who else also isn't important to us?

I think if I was trained and in shape I might be on my way to Ukraine on my own.

If we can have an adult discussion about these matters, it can absolutely continue. I think it's healthy to discuss important topics outside of the usual echo chambers.

Once personal attacks come out, we'll deal with particular posts and members. If that gets to be too much, then we'll shut it down.

This probably paraphrased quote is attributed to Einstein but the concept was put forth just after the atomic bombs were used:

"I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

And in a crazy contrast, I think I will have a grandson born today.

That last sentence is great news.. congrats and thanks for sharing...

I'm just thankful that I'm not having to dodge rockets and bombs as some bully has decided he wants to take everything I have and control the rest of my life. Next time some one asks you why the USA seems to be stuck in the role of the world's policeman, remind them of this day and ask them who they would nominate to police the world?

This is the crux of it.

Can we all act like adults? Or are we crybaby keyboard warriors who have to resort to namecalling and personal attacks?

Share your opinions, ask questions, read how other people feel about a topic. But if you can't do that without telling someone they are stupid for feeling differently than you, maybe you should just go back to Facebook or Twitter and shout into the void. Being part of a community means not taking a swing at someone every time you have a chance.

We should all be strong enough to say "here's how I feel" and then not be threatened or defensive if someone else feels differently. Remember, we all have more in common than we do different.

Gun violence never looks like kid stuff.
According to numerous sources, there were 288 school shootings in the US between 2009 - 2018. Pretty sure I know what you meant with your statement and I agree that gun violence is serious business, but there's some unfortunate irony in the way your statement reads.

As for Ukraine, I'm getting that Sept 1st 1939 feeling. I certainly hope I'm wrong but what are the other options? The west already passed "peace for our time" in 2014.
