Tubin’ Central WA 10th Annual

Well we did it. We made it 10 straight years. 10 straight early-ish season runs at this scenic central WA lake.

We found the fishing to be steady if on the slow side. It also seemed like smaller flies might be the ticket. The fish in this lake seem to excel at the short-strike. Give em something to commit to before they can think about it too much.

No snakes were seen, there was actual sun overhead, mid 30s at night for good sleeping, and a blinding full moon to cap it all off. Oh and a career first tiger trout at dusk.

I grew up not far from there. Hope to make it back some day even if I don't do much of that type of fishing these days. It's still a pretty special place. Have great memories there from the times I'd fish there 25+yrs ago.

Nice report ! reminds me of high plains lakes I fish around Laramie Wy. What aquatic insect life is prominent there ? Scuds seem to flourish in any lake that has sagebrush around here. Looks fun and scenic.

Can't go to eastern washington without a stop for maple bars in Cle Elum. The Elk Sausage flatbread or the Elk Sausage Scramble at Base Camp in Roslyn are also not to be missed.

That’s a great bakery. We frequently travel from the Tri Cities to the west side and I always ask my wife if she wants to stop there. The usual answer is yes.

If this is the 'windy/dirty' lake I think it is, I fished it last week with my kids and we did pretty well for smallish rainbows during midday, mostly olive streamers and BH nymphs. Nothing of great size and no browns, but maybe if we'd stayed 'til dusk...
