I took a few hours after work to check some skinny blue lines I’ve driven over dozens of times.

There were at least three fish around the log jam.

The channel split so I went up the right side and it got brushier than I felt like dealing with—for fun, for tiny fish. So I tried the other channel. Same result. Did I mention the bear tracks in this tight spot? I headed back to the car to try the other crick.



Also fishy, but I quickly ran out of crick and hit the valley wall waterfalls. The end.

A quick afternoon jaunt was fun. Yeah I put on a dropper—heresy! They weren’t suicidal on the dry yet. At least not in the couple few hours I was there. I left before magic hour. It felt like that kind of day. Fishing the river the little cricks above flow into. Bigger water, small fish. The “nicey” got away. No net. Just the mental and physical respite I needed.
