The like button for YouTube is essential to the money stream. No likes no money.

On social media the like button is a more mysterious phenomenon. Likes have produced an almost dangerous psychological dependence. It is a way of proving one exists in the anonymous social media universe. Zero likes = no impact no importance no feedback. In reality the likes offer no meaningful rewards beyond pinging the ego's reward centers a tad "yes I exist". A prolonged period without likes can seriously damage the psyche of some. Imagine a farmer in the 1800s laboring all day in the fields. No likes to prop him up, just the hope that the crop yield is high enough to feed the family with enough surplus to sell for cash. The smiles of a well provided family were the reward. Today likes can come in the form of smiles 😃. Diabolical.

#instantgratification.

If I like the video and the guy, I hit the like button. If not, onto the next…

I sometimes even hit like on post like these.

Emojis...
Powerful things.
🤣

Hey, if you like it and want more, give 'em a like. Means more similar (free) videos for you, and they get a very little something for their effort making something you enjoyed.

Generally it’s because it helps the video be shown to more people. The more “engagement” (likes, comments, shares, etc) on a post the more the algorithm will push it out. So if you like it and want to help them, like and comment. If you don’t like it dont do those things.
