The Stonedfish/Bambooflyguy monthly lake dry fly challenge!

You’ll get em next time Phil! I’ve got confidence in you…….you have the can do attitude! Just wear all of the warm clothes you have!! 🧊

I should have been there to meet you Phill. I only live 2 miles from the lake.
Glad you sipped my share of Steve's anti-freeze. Hope it kept your feet warmer than it does mine.

I've been caged up working from home. Was there ice on the lake? I'm supposed to test drive a boat on Saturday, about 11am and am a bit worried it will be iced up. I may have to wait a week for the normal warmer wet stuff.

As January draws to an end……Phil and I went out today. Still some big midges hatching…..but not a single rise all day. :-( Unfortunately for this lake the surface picnic just might be over. I gave Phil an A for effort! Next month, different lake with hopefully better results.

Maybe try throwing an attractor and searcher fish...

We’ve had action on foam hoppers and caddis when they’re not around that time of the year and not even available in those particular lakes…….trout food! Something on the surface to check out….

In the last few days I have not seen any sippers, swallows flying, nor hatches on a local lake.

Ice?? A lake I fished the other day was 60% iced over…..I kept wondering if the midges were trying to emerge only to find the ice above. Easy meal for the trout, super difficult casting!?

Ice only goes out about 10' from shore...

I hope more members try for a February dry fly fish……typically it could be a tougher month for top water action …..but you’ll never know unless you try! All it takes is one…..

I went out to check on another lake with winter midges…..lots of big shucks, some still hatching. On and off sporadic rises, missed one on the emerger caught a nice 14” rainbow on a black leech. Warmest sunny day on the water so far…..hopefully they’ll still be happening next month…..

Yes I know it’s F’n freezing right now….but has anyone checked out any lakes for fish rising? I’m impatiently waiting for a little warmer weather before I seek out my February emerger trout….

Great news, bad news….today I got one on the emerger, five others on the indicator…..bad news is I left my deep cycle battery at the boat launch!?? It was dark and yes…another alcohol related incident! Being 70+ miles from my house, I was sort of thinking about turning around and getting my battery, but I called my brother in law who lives a lot closer and he said he hopefully get it in the morning. Fingers crossed it’ll still be there. Might lose a little sleep tonight. But on the board for February!
