@Zak you were one with selection of knives at Swap? Sorry brain doesn't give me full short remembering yet.

This is Chucks knife he got from Marines. I don't know all the detail except he used it earlier in his career. You can see the military clip built in sheath.

Edit. Chuck had a couple of his Ka Bar Marine knives too.
Hi Jerry, yes that was me. I remember you telling me about this knife. Thanks for sharing the picture, it's a cool knife!

You all must have influenced me. I’m not a “knife guy,” or at least I wasn’t. My inexpensive little folding clip knife that my wife gave me got even more damage from a trip through the laundry, and I wanted a replacement so I went up to McClendon (hardware) to see what they had and saw nothing that spoke to me. I ended up at Blade Gallery / Epicurean’s Edge. I imagine those in the know, already know, but I was impressed with the selection.

I didn’t know what I wanted, so I handled a lot of knives. I said I was looking to spend around a hundred bucks but open to seeing models above that, for comparison, you know. I started off looking at some Spydercos, stayed away from the Benchmades, and came home with a Sinkevich Zero Tolerance 0450. I handled some really cool knives priced another couple hundo beyond what I paid. That’s a store I don’t need to go into too often. It’s somewhat disturbingly easy to get to from my house. But I did like it!

Benchmade has some very nice folders and I have some . But they are very spendy. I really like SOG and they are my favorite. Somewhere at the bottom of the Gilbert boat ramp is a 200 dollar Benchmade that I dropped . I went swimming for it but no luck. The water was not warm. I wonder how all these knife makers can make it. A lot of competition. Benchmade , CRKT , Leatherman , SOG , Gerber , Swiss Army , Kai, Kirshaw and a lot more .

I recently sent one of my benchmades back to them for a factory edge reset. It had developed a fairly nasty rough spot and I was curious how the program worked. For $10, they send all the packaging, just drop your knife in and drop off at a fed ex. It took about 2.5 weeks to get it back, but the rough spot was completely fixed.

I compared the new edge to a very new bug out I have, and it wasn't quite as sharp as the brand new factory edge, but still pretty good - probably better than I could've gotten it. Definitely less work. If you can afford the down time or don't have your own sharpening system, something to consider if you have a benchmade.

Something to try vs swimming. Watched someone pull out a handful of knives at drano with a fishing magnet?

It's been a minute. I found this Gerber Paul knife on a large auction site, earlier this year. It was listed as "for parts or repair". The seller stated that the locking collar was missing. I figured that this might be one of the easier parts to fabricate, other than the spring, so I bid, just a few dollars over the minimum, which was dirt cheap to begin with. Someone else put a bid in, but I won. I received it, and put it away to work on when I had time. I pulled it out a month ago, and was surprised to see that the missing collar nut was in fact, hidden in the handle of the knife. I don't like promotional or personalized knives, but for the price of a fast food dinner, I couldn't resist. Might put some scales on it, when I have time.

Does the blade extend with a flick when a button is pressed? I don't see a nail indent or other way to open it.

Thoughts on serrated vs non vs partial.
I’ve been given a couple real nice knives including a couple spyderco but they have been partially serrated blades. I keep sharp blades and never found an advantage with the serrations. I actually dislike them and feel they get in the way of the portion of the blade I like to use. I have found fully serrated blades handy for specific purposes but don’t like the cutco’s in the kitchen either.
What are your thoughts
I like plain edge blades. Except for cutting bread and lines/rope. The knife attached to my PFD is Spyderco fixed blade, fully serrated.

Lansky makes little 3-sided sharpening doohickeys for serrated edges that have profiles matched to different knife manufacturers. This one is made for Spyderco knives:

In the top picture, you can see the button on the left side. You simply press the button and rotate the blade. Or, and more fun / convenient, you allow gravity or a gentle flick to let the handle fall into place. You can do that to open and close the knife. It is locked in both the closed and open position.
