The "How was your weekend?" thread...

Spent the weekend in Shelton volunteering and watching race cars go fast. Yes I realize my video panning skills suck but I think you get the idea. Sound turned up for max effect!

Man, I miss watching the Group B rally cars flying through the logging roads around Shelton back in the mid '80's. Insanity on four wheels. We spent many days and nights following them from stage to stage when they came to town.

Before my time but I can only imagine!

It was absolutely wonderful! As you probably know, for a couple of years, the Olympus Rally was an FIA rally series event with championship points on the line. That meant all the best Group B teams, drivers and cars came over and raced to win. We got to see them all run all over the Olympic Peninsula. They even did a road stage around Capitol Lake in Olympia.

To top it all off, for an FIA world event the level of access we had to the cars and teams was unbelievable. We could actually walk through the "pits" between stages and watch them service the cars. We could hear them talking to each other in Finnish, Swedish, etc as they worked. The crowds were tiny. It was also free (except for all the gas we burned following them around).

For those of you who dont know what the spectacle of Group B rally was, here's a primer:

For the record, us American spectators were much more chill and brighter than what you see on this video.

I've never seen driving skills like that!

Ugh.... I was over in Shelton this weekend, if I would have known I would have paid a visit.

If you would like to do more than watch….
These guys are top notch.

It took more than a few weekends. I wasn't going to pay the crazy money the pros wanted, so I borrowed some climbing tools and had help from a few friends. Watched hours and hours of videos. My wife told me I was full on crazy.
I beat the shit out of my body. The stress and lost days, In the long run....it really wasn't worth it.
Almost done. I did damage the overhanging porch roof, but it's rotted and needed repaired.IMG_20250322_094222535.jpgIMG_20250405_092430284.jpg

I am too old for this s***. Now I'm wearing a knee brace, wrist brace and my shoulders really worn out. I think my body aged a few years during this stunt.

The wife was right!

Once you've paid with the actual arm and leg, their initial offer seemed more reasonable....

Sorry to hear it friend, heal up!

That's quite a job, hope you are all right. I'll fall trees that aren't next to the house (probably about 20 so far on our property, but anything near the house, I want fully insured professionals - we had 4 taken down last fall that were overhanging our new roof, think it was worth the money, if I made a mistake, insurance would not cover it.

@Peyton00,

Damn complicated project for someone not a professional. Nice work but...... Damn!!! Lots to go wrong there.

Heal up quick.

Its taken awhile but Ive become comfortable knowing my limits. However, it took a lot of body beatings, lost money and lost time.

Bob

Holy s***, Peyton. I'm going to have a partial maple taken down. I sure aren't going to try it myself.

Hope you heal up quickly.

OK, my turn.
Friday night while having an evening bourbon, I managed to flip an ice cube out of the glass an onto the floor beside my chair. Leaning over the arm of the chair (mission oak) as far as I could, the cube was just at my finger tips. Increased effort of perhaps a foot pound more pressure, I dislocated the lowest rib! HOLY SH*T. Major pain.

If that wasn't bad enough, went to a Garage Sale Saturday morning about 7:45 am. Tripped on something sticking out from under a table and did a "cartoon face plant" on the concrete floor. I went down fast and hard.
Cut my foot on whatever tripped me, Bounced my forehead of the deck splitting my eyebrow open and bloodied my nose. Wrenched my left shoulder socket, sprained my left wrist, and bashed my "already waiting for knee replacement" left knee!
🤬

Wow, what a crappy series of unfortunate events! Sorry to hear that and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I imagine that for a lot of us (myself included) the very real danger that gravity poses outweighs the humor.

As I plan for an upcoming float of the Deschutes I'm reminded of the Lowell George lyric: "you know that you're over the hill when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill".

I hope the healing is as quick as the injury!
