That's one way to acquire a new boat...

Well, here's my contribution to that (see above)

anyone else wonder if the crew was given IQ tests, they'd likely not fair so well?
"Hi, you don't know me, now let's get underway"
Commercial crews I knew from my harbor days would have tossed that bloke right over the side

Not sure why he needed such a large boat and crew to move some weed…would have made more sense to steal a smaller uncrewed boat and left undetected…

That was just for personal use. He was trying to deliver the boat and crew to the Chinese Mothership!

Ya I had the same thought. Didn't read too many details but I know many commercial boats down there are often crewed with folks from around the globe, often with language barriers, so maybe that came into play.

I dunno, definitely an odd situation. Also pretty amazing that he was able to so easily operate the vessel. Wonder if he had some experience somewhere along the way. Not the easiest thing to do to operate and maneuver such a vessel in a small marina with zero experience. Hell, just the undocking process alone should have been enough to throw red flags to an experienced crew, especially if he didn't have plenty of experience

Never a dull moment even in Westport
