Tape-Wing Caddis Fly

I saw a post last week showing how to do wings using a feather (dark feathers from a junglecock cape) pressed onto cello tape, then trimmed to shape. I experimented and found it quite easy to do. I decided to try imitating a caddis fly...my first attempt, with a few ideas of my own. I wanted to keep it looking natural, so didn't overdo the front hackle, instead I tied a foam strip to sit under the wing...a little lifejacket to help keep it afloat. We'll see what the trout think of it.

I saw a guy do that a few years ago at the East Idaho Fly Tying expo. Pretty neat technique. Feather burners are very helpful for that technique. I wonder what the durability is going o be.

That is very realistic! I love it and will try it out myself.
