Swap and Shop?

I would be interested in this. I've been seriously reconsidering my fly tying involvement lately. For how long it takes me to crank out a few half assed (but effective!!) flies, it seems like a low return on time invested. The thought of trying to part all of this stuff out give me the willies, so a swap meet and blowout sale is appealing.

Good luck herding all these cats.

It sounds like the possibility to offload excess, unused or unwanted gear to other interested individuals is enough motivation for some. Others will probably have interest in being able to check out and possibly obtain some of this gear and I would imagine that there would be items that are no longer available for purchase as well as items that are not available at you local fly shop.

I realized last year when I retired that I had to much crap in the house, garage, shed. Never thought of swap meet, simply sold it on FB marketplace with meeting in public location, my local mall.
You might talk to local mall, see if they would allow such in parking lot. Then wives could go to mall, spend the money you got.

I have a similar situation, but instead of fly fishing, it was shotguns. I had several that were just gathering dust in the safe. So when a fellow posted about his two daughters and how they had gotten into hunting, I decided to gift them a couple. They are two wonderful girls and deserve it. They will be picking them up in a few days.

So what I’m saying is if you find the right time, place, and people, gifting things is a wonderful way to reduce your excess.

Got any pump 12ga laying around? I know a guy wanting to add one to the collection ;)

What about a swap in June at Lake Mayfield or something?

Oregon folks could come up, others could go down, and fishing could be an extra incentive. Shad will probably be in the Columbia in decent numbers.
oh snap! You'll find me working a fish on X stump in X arm.....

That would be cool, hell, could even do like a big grill sesh, etc etc etc....

At Mayfield Lake Park? In the open area? (Looking at google maps)
We would need to check the rules for holding events. But since it would be just dudes showing up and selling gear, I can't imagine it'd be a big deal. Not like PNWFF or anyone else is selling tickets or taking commission.

I'm sure kickbacks are appreciated though.. or at least a tip or two.. just the tip though! LOL!

If the group is large enough, maybe donate a small percentage to PNWFF.. or a worthy charity! There's so much stuff going on.

I would think of Project Healing Waters.. or the CA fires.. or who knows what to come.. burning Tesla trucks.. I'll stop there!

I would rethink PHW. Maybe Castinf for Recovery or Reel Recovery. (Edit)

Love the idea. I've got an entire bag of lines I don't really use. The idea of sorting them, listing them and then shipping them is not worth the return. They aren't really donatable as they are pretty specific too.

Just one bag? Ha! I have one of those bags too.

Something like Mayfield is appealing. I've never been but the location makes sense. And it'll probably have stuff to fish for. What we thinking... April?

Depending the weekend, April may not be good for me. There's an FFF event in Issaquah at Pickering Barn. I'll check the weekend. Plus I want to be up on the Skagit baby!
