Suncadia mid-July

Some members of my wife’s family are getting together at Suncadia mid-July for a couple of days. She booked a condo for us yesterday. I know the Cle Elum River runs nearby. How is the access for wading? I gather it may be a steep climb but am not sure. Is it worth bringing gear?

The Cle Elum will likely be running very high as it is used for irrigation. The dam is cranked open during the summer, and it impacts both the wading and the fishing quality.

You'd be better off driving to the Yak. The Cle Elum doesn't have nearly the same insect population as the Yak (I can only assume there is something about the water chemistry, since they are so close to each other)

I fished that river once. But we were above Salmon la Sac. Not to sure is is spelled right. But higher up in the system it is very wadable.

You can get down to the water and there are fish in it. It ain’t the Madison but it’s good for an least an hour’s getaway. I’d toss a rod and reel and a few trout flies in if it were me.

Let’s see…talking for hours with relatives or wading a river with a rod in hand…

There is a path down to the river from the building; I’ve only walked in once, in the winter with snow on the ground…only one small fish…thoroughly enjoyed myself…

This! This really changes the flow of the Yak below where the Cle Elum comes in. Above, the Cle Elum on the Yak is good wading that time of year but just below, it's really running for a good distance just to give you an idea of the flow on the Cle Elum. I'd head North of Lake Cle Elum or across 90 on the Yak. Lot's a good wading in those areas.

Cooper Lake is a beautiful option but I'm convinced there are absolutely no fish in that lake! But, others have caught plenty of fish there so clearly it's just me. Regardless, worth the drive up to test it out.

Some fish, but not very accessible from the bank!
