Milestone for Voyager 1 about to be reached. The numbers are really quite staggering when you think about it. It has taken 48 years to travel 25.9 billion (yes, that's with a "B") km, 1 light day. At the same pace, it will take 17,664 years to travel 1 light year ("barring collision or capture" :)).

I imagine capture refers to potentual capture by a celestial body's gravitational pull, but what do I know, maybe it will get captured and come looking for its Creator as V'ger! Then again we may have the USS Enterprise ready by then!
 
All my time on this forum and never realized it had a astronomy subsection!!!

If your interested or have a kid interested in Astronomy for Christmas buy this telescope/camera combination for only $550. It is a reputable store in Tucson and is where I do all my astronomy shopping. Real people that help you. It is also available at stores that don't help you!!!

This scope works from absolute beginners to advanced amateur's. Many advanced amateur's end up buying it because it is so easy to use and just a ton of fun. You literally just set it on your deck and work a simply app on your phone or tablet.

The dreaded Costco starter telescopes are just to difficult for beginners to start using and in urban areas are almost useless. This SeeStar scope will get used a lot!!!

There are other smart telescopes but this is the simplest, easiest to use and best value out there.

They have really caught on and produce some pretty impressive images.
 
Not rare but a robotic telescope observer saw it as it happened
 
We are in Trentham, Victoria Australia visiting our oldest daughter and granddaughter. Two nights ago we got to view the Aurora australis. It was a pretty good show for the little bit we were out viewing it. Here’s a cell phone shot from the end of the lane where she lives.

Anyone else up? Almost eclipse time. Surprising how "dark" it gets as the moonlight goes away. Crappie pics.
