Sounds good to me.

This place is different from alot of other sites, there is a common bond here that needs to be the foundation. Attacking others and one-upping is usually not sustainable. I should know, because I long line trolled the open seas of WFF, PP Dark Side, Steelhead Forum, etc, but those days are over. I still might throw out a I'll informed .gif every once in awhile, but the intent should never be to make others look bad.

Fly fishing forums by nature are boring. So is it really surprising which threads get the most action here?

Here's an idea: why not have a "secret" sub-forum that is lightly moderated. To be allowed in you simply ask to be able to view and participate. Two rules: no threats and no name calling. You violate either and you are removed.

It would keep the contentious discussions off the home page for those that don't want to mix it up while giving those that want a little more edgy content a sandbox.

And the comments about hate are waaayyyyy over the top. Busting balls is how some of us relate. If you can't handle a little trash talk then you probably wouldn't enjoy spending 8 hours with me on the water. Dunking on a fellow member is fun. Getting dunked on is sometimes even more fun.

Are we really that sensitive?

i think if you are looking for that, as the Big 3 said there are other places for it…the Drake forums come to mind, what is so difficult about toning it down a bit so the mods don’t have to grind thru every thread worrying about keeping it respectful?

Umm, its not just me.

Look at the number of views and participation the more controversial threads get.

Do you think that is just coincidence?

I can't believe this has stretched out to 4 pages so far...
A request was made. Follow it. End of discussion.

It is the best thread on the forum.

Not surprising people want to participate.

You are missing the point. It's not about what is or isn't fun or popular. It's about what kind of a site the three of us want to put our effort into running. If I have to spend my energy doing something that I don't completely agree with because somebody else wants me to, I'm going to get a paycheck for it that puts food on my table.

I get it, you like a different kind of online interaction. I genuinely have no issue with that fact and you obviously aren't alone, after all, look at Twitter. It's a big world and everyone gets to enjoy what they enjoy. You should 100% start a fishing forum site to troll and flip shit all you want. It's not that hard. You're a smart dude and I promise you that you could figure out building one. If that's too much of a PITA, just start a subreddit. You can do that in 15 minutes and have a whole backend all taken care of for you. Or hell, talk to Tom Bie and see if he'd let you take over the Drake forums and get that place rolling again. I suspect their style would better fit what you are looking for.

But that's simply not the kind of site that Billy, Evan, and I want to spend our free time running. And if PNWFF fails because we didn't feel like having political shitposts, the three of us are completely fine with that.

FWIW, I would be uber disappointed if that happens.
Thanks, y’all!

My wife once heard an acquaintance say Oh...here comes Bob, get ready to talk about nothing but flyfishing and Oregon Duck sports. She wondered if she should be offended and I said Don't be....I'm totally good with that. Keep up the good work.

People get addicted to outrage and controversy. It's why our news is the way it is nowadays. it's why the most popular social media is all geared toward fear, outrage, and divisiveness. The dopamine rush you get with those things becomes an actual addiction. So we fully understand that some people want that, and we recognize some of our longest, most interacted with threads fall in to those categories... which is exactly why we're stepping in to stop it. Those threads create a LOT of work for us, and it's work we get no joy from.

I think our message here is clear enough. Talk about fly fishing, fishing that isn't fly fishing, your hobbies, life in general, or whatever interests you. We love the variety. We're not even going to say "don't touch on political issues," because that is cutting us off from important discussions. But how those discussions are handled is where we're asking everyone here to think very hard about before they post. If that's too much to ask of some people, then we're ready to take action.
