Spot The Bucket

As we all know, there are sweet spots in many runs that produce for no obvious reason. While I've yet to see a fish holding in this particular spot, from the elevated vantage point, I know its just a matter of time.

So seems like "Spot The Bucket" might be a fun way to challenge our water reading skills.

Anyone want to take a stab at marking the bucket? I'll post a clearer pic later showing the bottom structure.

This is a fun idea and great way to "train" the eye and learn from each other!

I'll take a swing (and probably a miss) at it... I am guessing here because of the slight change in the surface implying the plausible location of the transition point between the "gravel" and the larger rocks on the river bottom and likely a deeper channel where that seem offers a current break.

Can't say yet, but I'll post the clear pic showing bottom structure tonight.

I’d look for the spot next to the discarded bait containers and rats nests of mono.

In all seriousness, I am not good at bucket finding so looking forward to learning more

I think the water flows from right to left here. But the position of your eddy would seem to indicate you were thinking the opposite.
Ha ha, yeah! I was thinking left to right flow. Guess my water reading skills need some work!

You never know until you swing it! Played around mid-day this weekend fishing some water I thought was too fast and found some surprises.

But yeah, my guess would be just to the left of Dime's chicken.

Winner, winner chicken dinner! Not sure if Dime keyed in on the subtle, slightly larger than average standing ripples, but he nailed the bucket. Doubt I would see this from the bank, or even without polarized glasses from above. 3 marker rocks are circled in green for reference with next pic.

Here's a better, zoomed out view. A bit higher water, but taken through polarized glasses. The Bucket in question circled in blue. The scour hole at the cedar stump is obvious and will be watched carefully this fall.

Anyone else have a bucket to share?

Very close, just a bit downstream!

Cool thread but also this^^^ Reading water is a crucial skill, but it's not the same as 'reading fish'. Someone on this forum had the tag "If it looks fishy fish the <4 letter word for copulation> out of it"

This is a great thread. When starting fishing rivers learning to read water was super intimidating to me and something like this would have helped me greatly. I still suck at reading all but the most obvious water, but if I can read a run with some confidence I'll contribute here
