Just got to the island and I'll be cruising around Victoria and west, as well as the Gulf Islands, for the next week or so. Got my 6 and 8, floating and intermediate, and looking for src and/or coho. I'm going to the local fly shop when it opens but if anyone has any beta they want to share I'd welcome some via DM!

Otherwise, I bet there's a Canyoun Creek around here somewhere. 😂
 
Surf localism is so dumb. Especially when the waves are tiny and a holiday weekend... Indigenous People Day at that. I'm guessing most of the "heavies" moved here from Guelph two years ago 😂

In other news, the fishing continues to be excellent. Two of the six landed this evening have got to be in my top five. Maybe top three.
Coho are jumping but always just outside of casting distance.

not to the locals who put up with shit jobs and endless PNW winter rain to score those relatively few magic days that keep them anchored...or as a born and bred local said about the weekend invasion of the quality lineup he lived at ...''they' get the good jobs and hot women, be damned if their going to get our waves too...

personally, I go with the Owl Chapman statement ...'a local is nothing but a dirtbag who can't get his shit together enough to travel"

If someone is a "local" somewhere desirable then they need to surf/ski/fish/whatever smarter than the masses that show up on weekends and holidays. There's no excuse for being an asshole.

I've been the local and I've been the visitor. It's not hard.
 
Wow, what a trip. Love the island up there and will try out the fishing next time I'm up there for sure.
 
Fishing-wise, the past two days have been the same as the previous days but today gave me the first hatchery bonker of the trip!

This gal bent out the size 8 NS122 hook. I didn't notice until the next two fish came suspiciously unbuttoned. Oops.

Speaking of fish, today was the best day yet for coho. I lost count somewhere around 15.

Incredible fishing; thanks for taking us along for the ride. Is that heavy sea lice on that hooknose coho?

It's been unexpectedly unbelievable that's for sure! I don't want to leave!!

Those dots weren't copepods or other surface applied sea lice that I could tell. Smooth to the touch.

While some of the src up here have copepods and argulids, they're all much cleaner on average than the fish from Hood Canal and Puget Sound.
