Not eating it yet, but could start a cooking thread.. anyway trying this and will smoke it in the morning with my smoker box on my gas grill.

Was disappointed with this salmon so going to try this out. Won't buy it again!

According to their website, that is correct. They don't even try to hide it behind "keta", just straight up say "chum"

Thanks Josh! Live and learn. The fish is very pale, but said wild and probably is. Regardless I won't buy it again, even though I like the way it's portioned out and easy to pull out a small one or two for dinner!

Local Safeways carries it here. Tried it once......BLAH!🤮
Yeah, QFC too!

Yeah it's on my "never again" list!! Drying for a couple of hours or may throw it in the fridge til tomorrow.. will throw it on the grill with my smoker box for 3 or 4 hours. Low heat, indirect, as low as I can keep the temp!

I think it’ll smoke up just fine. 😏

My wife brought some home from the store once, since it said wild caught like the Bristol Bay sockeye I sometimes buy. She’s on board with the “we don’t buy farm raised salmon in this house” approach. I didn’t have to look it up or even open the package to be suspicious. I chucked it in a green curry coconut simmer, which I would only do with the good stuff if I had a real oversupply. It was acceptable, barely, and partly driven because I don’t like to waste food. I think there were leftovers that ended up getting tossed.

Yeah I don't like to waste food either and considered using it for blackened salmon. I'll stick with salmon from the case in the store, so I can see it and smell it before I buy it! I won't buy or eat farm raised! I will ask at a restaurant before I order salmon.. if they don't know, I won't order it...

If looking for quality store bought smoked fish, keep eyes out for Lummi Island Wild. Quality fraser sockeye, sustainably fished. And damn good.
I used to handle their products when I worked at Bellingham Cold Storage.

The best recipe for that is as follows:
Remove fillet from bag
Place fillet in 400° oven until done
Remove fillet from oven, let cool
Place fillet on floor
Shout "here kitty kitty"

One final brush of maple syrup.. about 4 and 1/2 hours of smoke time.. we'll see if it's kitty food or decent after it cools down!20250310_163618.jpg

Verdict:
Better than cat food! Okay for salmon dip!

I just call the number of the back of these fish packages and BERATE THEM!!!! I issue a threat until I usurp their business!!!
