I would rather someone add a radio feature to the device I’m already carryingWouldn't it be nice if someone just built a good radio that was just a radio and was immune to feature creep? No phone, no GPS, no camera, no alerts from your stock broker to buy, no bullshit. Just a radio that was excellent at doing radio things. And fit in your pocket. What a concept....
I like my InReach much better than my smartphone....no load of crap marketing emails, no enticement to doomscroll, and only the people I really want to text with can contact me. Superb battery life, GPS, and a reasonably usable on-board topo map of North America.I would rather someone add a radio feature to the device I’m already carrying. I can’t wait for the day that my phone has satellite texting capabilities so I can get rid of my Inreach. One less thing to carry and charge.

Of course my dislike of smartphones may also have to do with having to carry two of them (personal phone and work phone 24/7) for years prior to my retirement in 2022.
As for a simple small pocket sized radio...there are plenty of them available....but you'd have to listen to the incessant screaming voice ads.
I'm plenty happy listening to the sound of waves gently slapping the hull of my kayak...
