Show me your bass

This dude had me going for about 5 seconds. Got him from under a dock where I've missed a monster a few times now. And he had some pretty heavy salad along for the ride.
The bass in this lake always look like Darth Vader fish with such dark eyes.

I also caught a bull frog. Haha! I didn't get a pic of the darn guy because he...hopped away! 😁 He frigging just attacked the 1/0 Pultz hard popper. Literally jumped on it like a leopard on a gazelle. Haha!
He had the body of the popper in his mouth and the upside down articulated "weedless" 1/0 hook was sort of pinning his head to the popper. Just the barb was poking him. So when I grabbed the leader to land my big froggie he landed hook-free on the apron and jumped back in. Great looking frog that probably went at least a pound.
It's been 20 years since I had a frog attack a fly of any sort, let alone a 1/0 hard popper. Cannibal! Or in the mood I guess. 😍

I love fishing flies for warm water on lake out if drift boat. Stable, relaxing and room for everything. Spent all sumner weekly or bi weekly fishing Kapowsin. Lots of ctoppie and a few bass largemouth. Most in 8 inch range
 
Only baby bass tonight, but I did catch a big crappie. Kind of a unit honestly. I've caught longer ones, but this one was almost twice as thick as most crappie. It was about 14" I think. The apron isn't great.
He missed on his first porpoise-like take on my bass gurgler. I honestly thought it was a big holdover trout. I've had them take the gurgler before. So I went back to the same spot and whammo. The first pull was trout like, but it was apparent soon enough it was a crappie. Not sure which fish has the biggest falloff during the fight...it's a tightly run race between crappie and pikeminnow. 😁

It was also the maiden voyage in the Catcher Craft Wigeon so it's only appropriate the first fish in the CC was a crappie. So CCC. Haha!
And it was right after I spooked a drake wood duck. Would've been crazy if it was a wigeon. :cool:

Really nice crappie!
I was reading how slowly crappie grow in Western WA waters. That fish is easily over a decade old I’d bet.

I didn't know that. That's crazy.
This little lake does get a bit warmer than most of our local lakes and produces some nice ones. He was easily a 2 pounder. The broad back is what made me think he was a holdover trout.
