SHAD-stravaganza 2022

'bout that time. Anybody trying yet? I miiiiiiiiiight try this weekend, but might get distracted with springers being open on the Columbia. I'll have my first shad by next weekend for sure though.

I saw a two count at Bonneville yesterday, they are on the way.

I had a quick business trip to Napa last May; took my 7wt and tried my hand at shad fishing down on the American with a friend. It was a lot of fun…these 16-20” fish can pull. Wish I had a net, poked my hand a few times on dorsal fins landing them…

My previous experience with shad was when I was about 10 fishing on the Delaware with my dad with my ultralight fenwick spinning rod, 4lb test and shad darts…back in the β€˜60’s

you know where I'll be....

shad shmad...

Russians are closing in on the Ukranian shad fishing zone below Bonneville.

NATO must immediately send more precision shad darts!

I believe the use of switchblade darts have pushed the Russians back across the river…
That's the sturgeon guys using them to drop whole shad bait with a couple of railroad spikes for weight.

this is the problem. It's May
This is 100% true...I am only on the site this am because of a family commitment....mushrooms, turkeys, salmon flies, streamers for trout, LMB, SMB, springers, walleye, shad...fill my photo files in May! I have a similar dilemma in September!

I'm usually more excited about fishing in May, but this weather is really, really getting to me.
This is true...we were picking morels last Sunday until the snow (yes that's right snow!) covered the ground. It's hard to see mushrooms under snow. This is one of those Mays when it is tough to be a weekend warrior...when it's nice you need to drop everything and go.

I had to take a half day off of work just so I could mow my damn lawn between rain storms. It's getting ridiculous.

On a fundamental level, it is nice to be warm and dry. Is it wrong that I would like to go casually fishing and have it be dry and at least not chilly?
