Sea Otters Fight Climate Change

Researchers at the University of California, Santa Cruz, found that kelp forests were able to absorb 12 times more carbon dioxide in the presence of sea otters, a result of the aquatic mammals preying on kelp-eating sea urchins. What do you think?

One thing I know after reading multiple otter threads ;

No otter ever complained about having their feelings hurt...they simply soldier on, much like the Mongol Hordes or the Vikings...destroying everything in their path, and being so darn cute while they do so.

A lot to like about otters...you can learn a lotta from an otter...

Maybe not? Read someplace there's a challenge to thier being an interested party in the suit/ auction ? Or an announcement on thier part that they'd been dragged into something they wanted no part of ?

Was peripheral to me since it doesn't involve much of what interests me...

That's why the "?". It's up in the air. Whoever gets it, hopefully they shutter it.

Well, my personal experience with Otters has been good.....in particular at two of my favorite lakes....Pass Lake near Deception Pass and Trout Lake in Yellowstone NP.

The otters at Pass Lake seem to come and go. I watched as mama and 5 kits came out the pipe by the boat launch one morning. It has a grate on it now and I have not seen them. The fish population has not seemingly been affected over the years I have fished there and quite frankly, I enjoy seeing them.

The first time my wife and I hiked that steep ass hill up to Trout lake in YNP we observed a mama and babies chomping down on a fairly large cutthroat near the inlet where you cannot fish. I did not have a problem hooking 6 or 7 nice fish while we there. It did not seem to be void of fish despite them being there.

I think in general if we stop messing with nature ( in most cases) everything will balance itself out.
