Saving Steelhead from the SOCAL Fires

In the late 60's a friend of mine and I would climb down the almost cliffs of Malibu Creek to fish.
we would get caught and run out sometimes. One day he caught a very large rainbow. later we learned
that it was a steelhead. I am not proud of that behavior.

Dang. Kudos to the volunteers and advocates but from here it seems like whistling past the graveyard. However, there but for grace of God go I (we PNWers).

On a lighter note, this wild juvenile mykiss from Topanga Creek is shaped like a bluegill, amirite?

"Southern California Steelhead" is an interesting google search. Statistically, the most endangered native fish in America. If you go to Camp Land in San Diego you will see a muddy slow moving "channel" of polluted water. This was once teaming with Steelhead. Long ago, far up into the mountains these fish were harvested.
