Ross rods - anyone own one or used one, or know anything about them?

I just picked up a Ross Essence FW 790-4 (9' 7wt) on the used market. Does anyone here know anything about the? Who was making blanks for them, what years they made them, etc.? Picked it up for a Benjamin. Seemed like a good deal. Rod looks to be in great shape.

Ross rods first came out some time around 2007 and casted way better than anything St Croix had, we had the reps in the shop back to back days.

From what I heard while I worked in that world, they did not sell well at all and they discontinued them pretty quickly. No options for warranty replacements or repairs last I had heard anything as well. As far as performance, I can't speak to that as I never cast one myself.

I bought that rod and the 9 weight version many years ago from Sierra. I still have the seven weight, I love it. Use it for bass.

I have the 3wt , I love that rod.
I like it more than my Sage SP.

I have a 12 wt Ross Essence I bought from Sierra. On the tuna grounds, that rod has outperformed a Sage Xi2 and a relatively nice Cabelas rod. I think I paid $80 new. Sierra mailed it to me loose in a plastic bag!

Thanks for all the great feedback. Sounds like I scored a good one! Really looking forward to putting it to use. I came across one of the old Loomis Adventure 7 reels recently that I forgot I had. My dad gave it to me when I moved to CA but I didn't have a rod for it so it got shelved and forgotten about. Still has the sticker over the drag knob. I plan on putting that on the Essence.

That is 100% classic Sierra. Had that happen many times.
They give zero effs. Efficiency!
I thought it might blow up on the first fish after its perilous, unprotected journey through the mails, but nope, it's been fine. It's either a relatively tough rod, I got lucky, or maybe both.
