Wanted Rod tip for Orvis Encounter (pre-2021 9' 5wt)

I broke my Encounter rod tip. Called Orvis and they said that because my rod is pre-2021 model even their limited warranty for the Encounter no longer applies.

I'd hate to throw away a rod just because I don't have a tip. Realize this may be a long shot, but does anyone have an old tip lying around they'd be willing to part with?

I'm in Seattle.

Does orvis’ 25 year warranty not cover the encounters?

Where’d it break?
It broke several inches from the bottom of the rod segment, so not up at the tip if that's what you're thinking. Pretty much the worst place.

No, the warranty is limited on Encounters. For current models it applies I believe to rod tips only, but not at all to pre-2021.

Ah shit, yeah, if it was new the tip you could just throw a new tip top on.

Bummer, sorry to hear. You could go into the orvis store and see if they have any or if they know anyone that’s done something similar

Good luck with your rod tip quest, @BigMikey!
This thread reminds me how much I appreciate TFO's model--if you break a rod section, for most models you can just go online and purchase a replacement section. Last time I did it, it ran me about 30 bucks IIRC.

I believe Echo is still the same ? Broke a tip on one of theirs , and for $20 at the time got it replaced .

Echo (and I imagine TFO) can offer that partly because most of their rods cost them under $50 landed and they charged you many times that for the rod (or the retailer if you didn't buy direct). The rods are mass produced, so the given sections are relatively interchangeable between copies of the rods. None of this is to badmouth them. That's the nature of the business and they make great rods at great prices and the great warranty is part of the deal, and we the customers end up with great rods at great prices with a great warranty--everyone wins!

I have had that Echo Carbon XL for several years , been a great rod , 6 weight 9’ . I use it when fishing in my pontoon boat on the lakes . At the time I bought it , it was right around a $100 if I remember .
