He's one of my favorite actors, it always seemed he was the character he played, not the other way around. There's lots of clips you'll see I'm sure, from Apocalypse Now, or countless other roles, even To Kill A Mockingbird for goodness sakes. This is one of my favorites.

He was great in every role, especially as as a cowboy.

Always loved this movie… one to buy and rewatch which we may just watch tonight. It is a light hearted call to arms for boomer generation. We all love it for basically the same reason

I think my favorite roll he played was in The Apostle. I just really liked that film and the roll he played.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning!! I never forget that scene.
Tremendous actor, one of the best.

Loved them all. One of the Best.
He had me in Bullitt as the taxi driver taking McQueen to the phone booth. (Smithsonian Public Phone/cash)
McQueen gets back in the taxi…..
Duval: “…made two calls..second long distance”
McQueen: “…yeah…?”
Duval: “…second was long distance..”
McQueen: “…how do you know it was long distance..”
Duval: “….he put in a lot of coins…”

One of the best scenes in the movie, along with the restaurant scene.
We all know what the best segment was so there’s no need to go there.

Years ago, I was Manhattan NYC, visiting family. My wife and I were taking a stroll after lunch and doing some window shopping in a very ritzy part of town. I stopped outside of a shoe store to look into the window. I felt a presence next to me and naturally assumed it was my wife. "Damn, those are beautiful shoes", I said. I was not prepared for the deep, gruff voice in reply. "Yes they certainly are", said the man next to me. Surprised, I turned to look at him. Looking back at me was a smiling Robert Duvall. He gave me a wink and then turned to go on his merry way.
