Road trip and a 24 hour mixed bag bender🀠

A quick opportunity alligned with a slight decrease in forecasted wind and I hit the road out of town.

I arrived at the turn off and headed down towards the lake:

Camp was simple. A sleeping bag and a foam pad in the back of the truck, a chair and a cooler full of snacks. On the water by about 0930. It didn't take long:

I started with a type 5 and a big olive jig craw but switched to a aqualux and brown craw. The next hour was almost fish after fish:

The wind pushed me into a bay and the cover started looking...bassy:

Almost my first cast into the stick ups and I had the blow up of the year. One hell of a fight and a great mean largemouth to hand:

Sadly I couldn't replicate another largemouth bite. The lake has changed drastically the last several years with dropping water levels and for whatever reason it just no longer seems to have much for largemouth any more. But happy with the big girl I did get. Back to exploring:

At times the wind pushed me around pretty good. I slowly made my way to the far end where I found a unique cave that use to be totally under water:

Here I found my trout bite again and enjoyed several in a row:

As the light faded the critters came out. This lake has no shortage of wildlife:

For what ever reason the evening bite slowed. Hard to complain though:

I layed in the back of my truck and listened to the hum of millions of chironomids:

The bats came out and flew just feet above my head. Sometimes stalling right overhead. The evening stars were impressive mixed with the howls of the coyotes. I woke to the moon and the sound of footsteps on the rocks. A doe nearby walked down for a drink.

I didn't hit the water at first light instead choosing to warm up with a little walk. The evening temps were 39 degrees.

The morning fishing was good with several more trout to hand:

Mixed with jumbo perch. And I do mean jumbo:

It was a very successful trip but it was soon time to say goodbye:

Hopefully we have some major snow winters coming or this lake will soon go the way of many others in the area.

Till next time:

I actually got several that size and one I think even slightly bigger that flopped during picture attempt. Go figure😜
Well, it is NBA Finals and World Cup soccer time, so flopping should be expected.

Awesome trip report! Should have fried up the perch campside.

Very Nice! Looks like a perfect overnighter....what more does one needπŸ‘
