Rain

I know, my Cuz and his wife live in Juneau. Yesterday it was 5 below. My Cuz is retiring next year from Alaska Airlines, head mechanic there.

No wind that was forecasted…
Once again, the weather guys n gals get paid and keep their jobs. πŸ˜‚

I will take those kind of 'mistakes' any time. PNW weather forecasting is not an art but more of a best guess.

This is not at all intended to be a political and I'm not sure about the Seattle Forecast Office but the National Weather Service underwent some severe staffing reductions this past spring. I know the Sacramento California FO no longer has 24/7 staffing which seems crazy to me. There was a prolonged discussion in my weather nerd group (which includes current and retired NWS forecasters) and they were pretty concerned about operating with skeleton crews, fewer weather balloon launches (data which is used in forecast models), quality of forecasts etc.

Looks like a good start for their water year.
Now if they'd get out and rake those forests...

Wind is blowing here. Looked out the patio slider and back neighbors 6ft wood fence is flexing at the post. Hope it does not go down, the owners of said fence are snowbirds during the winter. Will not be back until April.

It is worse than "spin the dial".

Alarmist forecasting holds people's interest, generates viewers, ratings, clicks, and money for the reporting organization and media outlets (greed).

Inaccurate forecasting dulls people's willingness to listen and heed warnings they should be taking seriously.

"The National Weather Service needs serious reform and reorganization. The American people deserve state-of-the-science weather prediction. They are not getting it now and last week was a good example of the persistent failure mode."
