Rain

Spring rain is great but the reservoirs are full, so they won't get a "topping off" like Cliff wrote. It's interesting how important timing of precip is when it comes to seasonal hydrology. This rain event is mostly going to run off and won't be stored as snow for later melting or in reservoirs for later release. It will help the aquifers some and hopefully helps keep soils moist and fire danger down for a while.

Good clarification; I was focusing on Western Washington reservoirs.
 
Seems Silverfly left a wetside parting gift, I really thought it was dry time but we just picked up 0.7" of rain with a little more on the way. Streams need it, they are lower and warmer than normal already.
 
While it hasn't quite been the frog choker that was originally anticipated, we still have had a substantial rain event with enough precip to muck up tidewater springer fishing for the next week or more. So far we have 2.40" here at the house (near Lincoln City) with maybe another half inch on the way tonight and tomorrow.
 
Definitely not as bad as predicted in the Seattle area. Maybe we got some of the Olympic rain shadow effect. While it rained, I’d consider that to be an atmospheric river light at best. The rivers came up some but it doesn’t look like as much as expected.
Windy as hell though this morning. More rain this evening. Darn 😂

It has really been woofin' here on the tundra and we have the green to prove it. There is a bumper crop of weeds this year after the mild winter. Lake water temps are still reasonable with no 80 degree days yet (coming soon though) and the frequent rains have kept the pressure down on local lakes. With fishing interest dropping off after the first month of the season it bodes well for fall fishing. I am already seeing a couple of lakes with good populations of 13-15'' deep bodied fish with smallish heads that will fill out nicely by October. By then there are some general regs lakes that will fish quite well for good sized fish and will see little traffic. We have few streams over here but the ones we do have a lot of runoff right now, a little too much to fish comfortably. Hopefully by the time Freestone gets here in late July for our birthday bash the streams will still have enough water and area lakes still producing, especially the higher ones.

I'm liking the rain, some years we have had over 90 degree temps in May and that is just too damned early. With nighttime temps sometimes still in the 40's and daytime temps in the high 50's or low 60's I am still using the furnace or wood stove to stave off the cold and damp. A cool summer may be too much to ask for but I am asking anyway.
 
Seems power outages would be more related to wind than rain or flooding. Been crazy windy at my place since early this morning. Lights have flickered some.
Heard a tree come down in the park across from my place this morning. They make a very unique sound when they snap and take out other limbs and other trees as they fall.

Any cool and wet weather we have now just means summer weather season just got a touch shorter and ol man winter will put an end to that shit and send the groundhogs packin' in October. I'm rooting for a cooler summer also, but we all know how that will play out

This morning's 12Z runs of the GFS and Euro for total precipitation accumulation through June 21 are interesting. If the GFS verifies...my tidewater springer efforts may again be stymied. I'm voting for the Euro...
