Termite hatch is on fire tonight, literally and figuratively. Couple days ago our puppy ran into a rock slab corner on top of an old cherry tree stump. Wife said remove rock slab, couple termites were seen then. Before making plans to remove stump there was a massive hatch right around sunset, short controlled
before wife reminded me of the current fire burn. Pup was not happy with the fire sound/smell, hose at hand it was off as soon as it started. I know some of you use termite fly patterns for Puget Sound cutthroats, so there you go.

Long tenured, lots of PTO to use and I work for a company with Flex Time! Also helps I live close to some solid salmon beaches. I normally start at 6-6:30 (a lot of my colleagues are east coast) but bump it back to 8-8:30 a couple days a week during salmon season if I don’t have meetings scheduled. I just let my boss and my team know and it’s all good. This may be the last week I do it without having to take time off though. Getting light out later and later unfortunately.
Edit: 0-0 this morning for the record. Taking actual time off tomorrow later in the day to fish better tides.

My boss also lets me off to go fishing and elk hunting. I have a a little center console - maybe we can connect. I'd like to learn some more about fly-fishing for resident coho.
I finally got back out to the salt this morning. It's been WAY too long. Launched at Point Defiance and mostly fished the west side of Vashon. Not the best beaches, but I was doing a bit of scouting. I did fish the kelp cliff there with my WF8S SA Sonar Titan I/3/6 on the Aetos 8wt. You know, targeting coho. 
Don't worry, no kings were touched. No coho or cutts either.
The tide was very unspectacular and the wind came up. The good news is it wasn't very busy and the boat ran perfect.
And this perfect 15" cutt got the skunk off. He had me convinced I had a big resi on the way he pulled on the 6wt.
I did have some small dudes half-heartedly strike a Steelhead muddler. Not sure I've ever seen that many little dudes together. I assume they were cutts, but maybe next years coho?
The WF8S SA Sonar Titan I/3/6 casted great on the Aetos 8wt and the WF6I SA Sonar Titan Full intermediate was a dream on the old RS4 6wt.
The fish checker asked me how I did. I told her only 1 cutt and she said "Yeah, it's really slow this morning. I've never seen so many guys leave mad this early." Haha! It was only 12:30.
Saw a dude with a really nice Ram 3500 launching a REALLY nice Stabicraft. I think it was the new 2500 Ultracab thingy. It was easily $200k boat. And the truck was $80k minimum. He did struggle backing that thing up. I was in the lane right next, but he pulled forward to straighten out (people never go far enough forward), with the help of the nice ramp guy so I bolted past. I didn't want any red Stabi paint on the Ford.
Saw a seal underwater and thought it was a 60# king.
He came up and we had a great convo about him blowing out my beach.

I need to get out and hit a beach down here. The overcast weather this weekend makes for great fishing weather, the tides this weekend not so much.

Beautiful cutt. I love when the fins start taking on those yellow fall colors.
I wonder if some of those smaller fish might be some of the chinook they release from the net pens at Pt Defiance. If I recall correctly, they release 100k of them.

I wasn't aware they did that. They were 100% chinook. They had that black barring on the tail. Mystery solved!

Pretty slow weekend overall. 0-2 Friday from the beach, 1-1 from the boat yesterday and 2-3 this morning from the beach.
Friday was interesting. Was able to get out and fish the best part of the tide and there were jumpers around but they fish just weren’t very aggressive. Fish were caught here and there by folks but considering the amount of fish within casting distance, it should have been a much better day.
Yesterday I took some non fly fishing friends out on the boat so we ended up fishing all kinds of methods. Jigging, mooching, a little trolling with divers, a little trolling with flies on a deep sink line, cast herring and fly fishing. We ended up hooking and losing a few on divers. We also hooked a solid fish jigging and lost it as well. Switched over to casting herring (them) and fly fishing (me) and lost a few solid fish on herring and I landed one fish on the fly. It was late in the day and smallish so it went back.
Today, headed out early (could not fish the incoming later in the day) and actually got a little action. The water was super salady which made fishing frustrating sometimes but there was a ton of bait with the grass. 2-3. One hatchery and one wild that swam free.

1-1 today on the buzz bomb + custom fly hootchie in between digging sand holes to bunker the toddlers in.
Agree with @jasmillo that the fish seemed present and uninterested earlier in the weekend. Other than a rezzie opening weekend and my first beach king, I’ve had a crummy season despite putting in some decent early morning hours.
Today was a last minute afternoon trip just me and the kids, with fishing as a secondary objective, so naturally I hooked up in the first ten or so casts.
It cut red so likely a rezzie, but they’re starting to put on some good size!

No fish luck for me but did see something pretty cool. I was just about ready to hang it up when a large shark came to the surface and thrashed around for maybe 20 secs or so. It may have been chasing or eating something, but it was hard to tell. It was quite a commotion. This was quite a distance from shore and based on the size of the dorsal fin and tail I saw, there is no way it was a dogfish. I have no idea what type of shark it was but it was big.
That was a first for me. Puget Sound continues to deliver.
