The way I tell between Coho and Chinook: Chinook has black gums and Coho has white gums. OK so far....
@Stonedfish check this out, Zak nailed a flounder, easy peasy, on a spin rod. Maybe down shift from hallucinating all things shark and focus on the flatfish...Fished off a beach in MA9 with a spinning rod today. Brought a couple tiny salmon to hand, and this flounder. It's cool how well camouflaged starry flounder are!

Rigby had fun
Easy -Silvers are destined for the table and coho are destined to the spawning grounds! The big question though is how do you tell the difference between a coho and a silver?

FIFYThe big question though is how do you tell the difference between an atlantic salmon and all other fish!?

That's what it's all about! Such a great photo!I've been out a few times over the last two weeks with the intentions of catching a coho. SRCs have been a bit quiet for me so the focus was on salmon. All MA9 beaches. Took a week off and camped with the family at one of the state parks for two days. Battled THE Eagle, the seals, the salad and long days of sitting under the sun. I had a few nice hookups that all popped off right before beaching them. Still fun but I was ready to bring one home.
After our camping trip my partner surprised me with a day trip out with Capt Dave Dietrich for my 50th. An annual trip that usually happens in the spring when the fish seem to cooperate a bit more. Had a nice long afternoon flood tide that produced some nice fish but still a little slow. Always a good time regardless but left me wanting a bit more after the few days of getting skunked up north.
Yesterday was just my daughter and I. We spent the day in MA9. Went to a popular beach and hooked one within 5 minutes. Lost it after a decent battle. Salad showed up so we moved on. Drove to a different beach that we had all to ourselves. No expectations but was hoping for at least a few SRCs. Fished for about 10 minutes then it happened. Beached our first "big" coho. No seals to rush the fight, no eagles waiting on the beach for scraps or possibly steal our fish. To have her there with me and seeing her reaction meant everything. Cohos stomach was full of sand lance.
I think we're both ready for more. And maybe a boat.
