That is such an awesome work policy. I fished the same local this evening, extra large serving of salad but no fishIt's been a few months since I've been in the salt. Life, family and work have been keeping me pretty occupied.
Today I was able to take advantage of my works "Summer Friday" policy which means done at noon. I was hoping to get away a little further but the wind forecast wasn't looking too good where I wanted to go so I ended up just going to my local beach. First time this year for me plus it was better on the gas tank. Ended up getting a bunch of hits and put two in the net.
Felt good to make the connection after a few months hiatus.

Actually you need a Stellar presentation to catch a starry flounder, Platichthys stellatus !Need to have an elite presentation to catch a Starry.
Nice!
The old Starry is one species that has eluded me. Have seen plenty but never caught one.

I've been lucky enough to catch two, three if we include a baby that took a spinner half its sizeNice!

… maybe make a proposal to WDFW to promote a “Starry” week.Maybe I need to take a day and try to make #Starryfest2026 happen.

Sometime this summer @Irafly is supposed to take me out and show me how to use a type 7 full sink line to catch flounder from stupid deep depths. We should link up for that day, which could be legendary.Maybe I need to take a day and try to make #Starryfest2026 happen.

Is there a way to do this that involves bobbers?Sometime this summer @Irafly is supposed to take me out and show me how to use a type 7 full sink line to catch flounder from stupid deep depths. We should link up for that day, which could be legendary.

On a side note, I wonder how big these fellows get in the wild. I have a childhood memory of an absurdly big starry in the Seattle aquarium. Like, easily ten lbs. He was maybe 1/3rd of the size of their very respectable halibut. I assumed that was normal size for them and wanted to find out how to target them lol
The largest recorded starry flounder was almost a yard long and almost 20 pounds (see here). The state record is 9.5 lbs.

And here I was, wondering if catching a Starry results in a merit or a demerit for the angler.Maybe I need to take a day and try to make #Starryfest2026 happen.
