Puget Sound

Ran further north today for some fresher humpers. Bright and sunny but the fish didn't care. Not peak yet but solid action all morning. Finding lots of nice sized pinks this season. Fun to watch half a dozen fish break off from the school and chase the fly down. Even had some trying to eat the fly out of the mouth of the fish that I hooked :ROFLMAO:

Fished coho for about an hour and a half in the morning with nothing to show for it.

I had a tougher time finding takers amongst the jumpers. 0-3, two pinks on a fly and one coho on a jig. The pinks are certainly thick now though.

I was thinking Hansville or GH area but decided to stay close. Hit PP again and checked out Richmaond Beach park too. ( intel was Richmond had some pink action last Tuesday).

Nada. This was casting practice. πŸ˜† Many boats out and about in front of Richmond and picnic point . Saw a few jumpers but they were a football field + away from the beach. Beautiful morning. Water gin clear. I had a four day break from work. Back to work tomorrow and I’ll start hearing/reading all the pink stories. It’s gonna boom here soon. I really thought this am would be good up north here but still to early. Good luck out there. Stay safe.

Lots of jumpers spotted today while fishing the local. I’m not a great caster to start with, so 500-1000 yard casts weren’t in the offing. Freighter crews likely trolled up a few since the fish seemed to be oriented in the middle of the shipping lanes. Super bright and sunny. My favorite conditions….. πŸ˜‚

Buddy and I got into 10-12 on the fly in my boat today. Hit a beach that normally doesnt have too bad of boat traffic.

Question: when did it become the norm to sworm a boat that gets a fish on? Hard to get away from folks if they come running when they see you hook a fish.

Yup. Couple highlights for me yesterday:

Tired of boat traffic, I decide to run 1/2 mile or so up the beach where there is no boats around. 3/4 of the way there I look behind me and have 2 boats hot on my tail.

Pod of pinks porpoising towards me while on spot lock. Big boat with enclosed cabin comes flying past within 15-20ft of me and parks on top of where they last saw the pinks and guy runs out of cabin and starts hucking a buzz bomb where the pinks used to be. Pinks swim by my boat and I hook up

People were chasing boats 20 years ago. Easier to fuck with them when we were being followed during halibut season vs salmon.

Didn’t catch anything tonight but was entertained by someone’s small concert at one of the houses inside the bay I was fishing. Pretty funny hearing this guy drunkenly singing Mr. Brightside and Footloose while getting some casting practice in.

Did a solo mission on the boat this morning and went 9-15 on the fly and 4-5 with the buzz bomb chasing pinks around. It’s been sporadic where I’ve been fishing so brought the gear rod to cast to far off fish in case fly action was slow. In the end, probably didn’t need it. It’s still fun though and allowed for short periods of rest to a case of tennis elbow that’s flared up just in time for the heart of salmon season 🀣.

Fished a new spot and found good numbers and just one other boat (fellow board member). Very nice day overall.

A sunrise pinky.

Only fly used today. Held up surprising well.

Decent day yesterday in MA9 for cutts. Took the first ferry out of Edmonds and hit two beaches.

Beach one produced 10 cutts. There was another angler that showed up just a short few minutes after I got there. Looked like they pulled in at least 2.

Headed to another known spot that had two other anglers there. I decided that was plenty so I switched gears and headed towards a known coho beach. Fished beach 2 for about 2.5hrs with nothing in sight. There were 4 other anglers there with the same idea but no fish presented themselves.

Good day overall and I got some good double haul practice in. Day one of a whole week off in the books. Tomorrow we head to Whidbey Island for 3 days.

Kinda looks like a pink shirt, so…maybe? Today I donned the finest fishing togs available.

What is that you're fishing with? I'm thinking it's either 10 foot of electrical conduit

Or maybe some bastardized Matt B version of this, some kind of saltwater tenkara and hoochie experiment

You can see Stonedfish modelled that one, he's cornered the blue nitrile hand model market...

Seriously though, shoot me a PM if you want hi res, it was a pretty cool backdrop...

It helps give me the extra reach I need to dap them, plus helps remove slime in one fell swoop. Sweep? Swoop.

I did jig one into a bite right below me today. Lost that one.

Edit: also if you look closely it is a β€œscrubeer.” Who doesn’t want a good ScrΓΌ Beer on a Sunday morning?

Nothing going on this morning. No bites and saw no jumpers. Really bright and sunny and the NW wind really started to pick up so I bailed.
These hot days really bring out the lazy litter bugs. Water bottles, beer cans, coffee cups etc. Some folks treat our beaches like their own personal dumping ground. Really discouraging considering there are four trash cans right next to the beach entrance.
