Puget Sound

Must be a Washington thing or there are a bunch of rookie ferry riders.
The ferry boards in 20 minutes, so let’s sit with our car running and the lights on…. because we don’t want to miss the ferry. 😂
Nice to see some clouds today and a south wind.

1/1 on sculpins in Area 11 this morning. Saw a few jumpers which got me excited but no biters. I wonder if the fish we see jumping are different than the ones that actually chase the fly. Regardless, they indicate fish in the area so I’m not sure what the problem was.

High tide at 8am had me pushed up against the shore at this spot. I snagged a few trees and one gentleman who snuck up quietly to watch me cast. Luckily it just snagged his jacket and not flesh.

Couple big ships in the bay this morning:IMG_4389.jpeg

I realize now that I forgot to snap another photo of the concrete plant. Nice and cool out there this morning.

3/5 Pinks

Years ago, my first voyage into the salt was to fish a spot near the concrete plants that Chris Bellows told me about. That was the door opening to a lot more fun fishing the salt. Fishing Puget Sound has been endlessly fascinating, and still largely unpredictable to me.

I get a kick out of brownline sites that hold fish. Some of them have an unconventional and raw beauty, particularly in good light and on a bright day. Sometimes you luck out with a honey bucket. Hence the picture of this "honey hole" from yesterday:1693775653994.png

Based on my previous post, I think I finally figured out why vehicles are left running with their lights while waiting in line for the ferry.
It’s the damn drivers! 😂

Fun day on the water fishing with some fellow board members.
Nine coho and one humpy to hand. Nothing big but still fun.
Got broken off by a nice fish. The loop where the leader meets the hook eye broke. Probably due to the beach beating I administered to it all morning. 😂
Lost one other really nice coho that spit the hook on a big aerial.
Everything released today. Didn’t want to deal with processing fish.
A few pics from today.

Got lucky and I was the last car to get on the ferry. Mr. Irrelevant!

Great catches!
Re. the ferry— I live within earshot of the Fauntleroy ferry’s foghorn and when the weather gets warmer, and especially when the fish are in I hear a great increase in blasting, and I don’t think it’s related to fog. Like this morning, repeated horn blasts, I just figure some yahoo is probably dawdling around out there in some small craft in the ferry lane, or too close to it.

Maybe he blasts his horn every time he lands a fish.

28/41 or so on eelgrass, 0/0 anything with fins. Slept in a bit and conditions or crowds had me bouncing around a handful of beaches. Gathered some more evidence for some hypothesis. All in all as much of a scouting trip as a fishing trip.
