New fees went into affect in January
I actually went on the DOL site and got the actual cost Rob. Maybe you did as well. $88 for my car. So I don't see new fees! My tabs are due until July so I didn't buy them.

I think it's the gross weight fees that are driving up the cost. @Rob Allen said it's for a truck. For fun I just checked online for my 2006 1/2T Silverado, and looks like it's going to be $137 total this year, $120 of that is Gross Weight fees. If Rob's got a heavy 3/4 or 1T, I can see it maybe approaching $200.

What the heck, weighing in on this thread. We have a 2023 CR-v Hybrid, the tabs went up and we pay for "electrification".

Gonna get some HATE: I'd like to see a serious tax on studded snow tires or ban the damn things.

Peace.

no hate from me! 100% agree!

drives me crazy how much damage to the roads around here done by studded tires.....and I'm just in Portland. I 'hear' them starting in October all through April. I mean, if you're going to do it, just get 'em for Jan/Feb, or learn how to drive in winter conditions with standard snow tires...

I suppose it gives the road crews jobs during the summer though, so I guess there's that...job creation through road destruction.

Things get more expensive over time...
My shocked face is around here somewhere.

Rob’s “Pucker Up” rant reminded me of days long ago where I had the same sentiment he has today that I experienced in 1972. I was fours years into my USAF career after tours in Vietnam and McChord AFB when I landed an assignment in Great Falls, MT. Growing up in SoCal I got my first license to drive in Jan 1964. Gas was low at $0.24.9 and I seem to remember never paying more than 30 cents for a gallon of gas. Once we reached Great Falls we were please to find gas just outside the base at 31 cents/gal. Even though I was only taking home $50/month, gas wasn’t an unreasonable expense. We had a Ford 150 P/U with a small camper and quickly found plenty of places to fish in SW Montana. Yellowstone NP became a favorite destination. The “Pucker Up” occurred on our first trip from Great Falls to Gardiner, MT, the northern gateway to the park. After filling up in Great Falls at 31 cents we needed gas in Gardiner as it was some 225 miles south of Great Falls. To our shock, the price was $0.39.9, some 30% higher per gallon. We thought it was a ripoff and of course we hadn’t budgeted for the extra expense which we’d probably incur at least twice on the trip. But we puckered up and still managed many more trips to YNP that first year in Great Falls. As a matter of perspective, in 1972 my grandparents gifted us a full day float on the Yellowstone with Parks Fly Shop which at the time rated out at $25. Today gas in Bozeman, Great Falls and Gardiner is pretty much at parity at ~ $3.50/gal. But its “Pucker Time” when when you want a full day float today—$600— a full 2350% increase from those days in 1972.

first surf trip to upper Baja was at 16 years old with three buddies in an Econoline van. Gas was 24 cents a gal in the US, 19 cents in Baja. We were gone for two weeks and our gas budget from the Bay Area coast and back was $60. We had enough left over crossing back into the US to stop at a $2.95 all you can eat buffet in San Diego. We ate and ate until the owner threw us out. We got back on the road and were cruising along when suddenly the chunky friend among us suddenly whips out a broiled chicken leg from under his dirty as hell surf trunks and starts chowing down...we about got hernias we were laughing so hard.

Was part of the 4628 Support Squadron at McChord for an early-out hitch to go to Ft. StCC. Worked in the SAGE building. Fishing lakes and streams on Base and on near by Ft. Lewis for Steelhead back in the day. Saw Elk, and lots of deer walking to work in the morning. From what I hear most of that is now gone!

Cheapest I ever paid for gas was 18.9 cents per gallon at the token operated Gas-A-Mat pumps in Sheridan CO. 1972 Vega. I think it cost me like $3 to drive to Lincoln NE to see my mom. Coors beer was $1.99 a case so we took her about a dozen of 'em.

Same breakdown as me except mine was 110 where yours is 140. 2006 Silverado 1/2T. Not sure why it’s $30 different.

Probably because Rob’s truck weighs a lot more than your truck.

Should not be part of owning a truck.

Wage cuts in Olympia would be more effective.
Do you think state wages are too high? Is that what you are trying to say?

Without getting deep into politics

1. Our state is spending way too much money
2. The state is doung things they shouldn't be doing
3. If they won't cut the budget they should cut their own pay not mine.
Yes increasing taxes is giving me a pay cut.

Maybe for most people 200 bucks is no big deal, maybe 1 dollar per gallon in gas taxes is no big deal. Maybe 30% increases in fishing licenses amid drastically reducing fishing opportunity is no big deal to some. It's not a small thing to my budget.
