There is an AI app that sizes the fish for you. Not sure the app is an added cost.If it's on the same plane as the fish, and the fish is perpendicular to the lens, It looks like a great way to get length data from photos, especially if using an AI tool or other machine model to harvest data. Potentially useful in some community science efforts.
A lot of folks (especially those with "measuring nets") probably won't like/use something like this

The balls are not big enough for the fish I catch.I watched the video but I guess I have to do more research to see how this thing is supposed to work? Come on, @Billy I am lazy. I’m moving on.

Amazingly, that is my kid in the photo. He was working at the shark lab in Bimini (a small island in the Bahamas) at the time. He took me out on a number of shark dives, unbelievable experience hanging out with 12-14 ft hammerheads and a variety of other sharks as well. They were doing growth and migration studies, tagging mostly hammerheads and tigers to better understand there life-cycle behaviors. Very cool stuff.View attachment 153091
If you want to get serious about fish measurements mount dual lasers to your camera.

Yes, yes you are. They claim the app is discriminating enough to spot the difference. But they also claim it won't confuse an orange thingamabobber (which is much smaller) for their "proof ball" and won't inflate the size of the fish due to the mistake. Are you paying 30 dollars for a small foam or whatever it's made of ball where any thing of the same size would work?![]()
@Irafly would walk around with a bigger ball so he can claim SMALLER fishYes, yes you are. They claim the app is discriminating enough to spot the difference. I tried one with the app. First 42" cutthroat I ever caught on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie was quickly followed by several more in that range.
ADDITION: I suppose if we have to trust that someone isn't gaming the AI in the app, then we should really just trust the person and save $30. The app is nice, though, in that it gives you water temperature, gauge info, etc, based on your gps location for free. No purchase required.
