It's always a special time of year when the first small area 10 June chinook gets bonked because it's a "pink".

I highly enjoy pink fishing. Especially chasing them from a boat. Just pure fish catching fun.

I throw flies and sometimes jigs. I’ve never trolled for pinks ever.

I may use this pink year to get my kid and his cousin out into some not hard to catch "real fish". I don't find pinks particularly amazing. But they are good fun to catch.

While they definitely don't engage in all the crazy shenanigans that coho are known for once hooked, pound for pound pinks are sooooo much stronger than coho and pull so much harder.

Yeah when thousands of hard pulling, grabby, and I think tasty fish are swarming my local river during some amazing weather, I am not going to ignore that opportunity. Big bright pink salmon can pull really hard; harder than most any sea run cutthroat. I have no qualms proclaiming my enthusiasm. But uh yeah, all y’all are fine by me to ignore it. You’re just missing out on the par-tay. Say hi and share a beer and a laugh.

Pinks tend to be underrated by many, because they're generally more plentiful and easier to catch than others. I enjoy fishing for them on the river and beach ....and they can't be beat fresh on the BBQ or in the smoker.

As good as the last PS pink run was, many redds were destroyed in 2021. Here’s hoping for good ocean productivity and survival to bolster returns (and maybe individual fish sizes) in 2023.

will have some of those non traditional colored fly’s ready and see if I can’t outfish other folks using nothing but pink. and not to forget a floating/waking fly this year !
