One of my earlier memories is of a naptime at a in-home daycare, lying there on the ground with all the other kids but illicitly holding a penny in my mouth, until I accidentally swallowed it. I remember I freaked out in my mind a little bit, but didn't tell anybody, and apparently it all came out in the end more or less okay.

It's a little bit wild to think of no more pennies in life, not that I use or really appreciate them anymore. It's just one of those things that's always been there. Bye, penny.

I’m going to a Coinstar this afternoon, so hopefully I do my part to solve the penny shortage. 😉
I’ve noticed a few stores that just round up or down so they don’t have to give pennies with change.
@Matt B that is a good story. At least you passed it. I bet you had no sore joints for a few days. 😂
A kid in my kindergarten class shoved a pussy willow up his nose and got it stuck. Luckily the school nurse had tweasers. Not as exciting as swallowing a penny.

I remember as a kid running out to put pennies on the railroad track just before an oncoming train and going back to find them a little more than paper thin and just a little smaller than a quarter. Wish I had kept one.

The tracks I had access to, I figured out I had to tape them down or they'd rattle off before the train got to squash 'em.

When I started High School the train tracks directly behind school was the place to be between classes...it was a popular spot, and sort of the designated 'smoking area'.
Get baked and put a penny on the tracks, then head back to the next class.
;)
Bonus points if anyone knows the school.
🤣

I have a “few” now.
Me too. I have picked up pennies from the ground for as long as I can remember. I did so one day and my Son asked me why I bothered. I asked him to read what was inscribed on the coin. "In God We Trust." "Correct, Son. I refuse to allow that to lie on the ground."

"Me, I got a nickle smashed flatter than a dime by a mad dog, runaway, red silver streamlined train . . . " Lyrics from one of my favorite departed balladeers.

Did you're parents find it?

My dad, in his never ending quest to save money, found out if he drilled holes in a penny they were cheaper than washers...so I manned the drill press making washers for a project of his...child labor laws need not apply...

I laughed so hard at that I shit my pants, so I'm starting over too.

Well as other said taped pennies to the tracks that ran through my uncle's farm, still have some in my memory box.

Best trick was got our of school multiple times by going to the nurses office complaining about not feeling good, all the while holding a couple of pennies in my mouth, knowing she would take my temperature, and the pennies seemed to cause a temperature rise 😄. And home I would go!

when i took my daughters camping on deschutes floats, i would walk them up to RR tracks and put some coins on the rails. it took a bit of looking to find them after the train passed. i kept a few in my river ammo can, but who knows what happed to em.
