You are supposed to do the zipper effect, it will move more cars that way. Unfortunately, no one knows how to properly do it so that is what happens. How about this trick, there’s a long merge lane and left of it cars are crawling or stopped. There always one jerk that will pass them all until the last possible moment and wants in.
Drive as shitty of a car as mine and that Landrover Discovery will eventually let you in. Nothing to lose on this sideThis rant has been brewing for 6 years…
Seattle drivers are the biggest assholes that I have ever encountered on the road.
My driving experience is limited to Australia and the USA, so I have no doubt that there are far worse places. However, Seattle is noticeably worse than anywhere else I have been. Below is my asshole ranking, of the cities that I have spent the most time driving in.
The thing that really gets me fired up is when people speed up, to stop you from merging. I almost never encountered that, in my home town. Over here, it’s like a 50-50 thing.
- 10 Seattle
- 7 LA
- 6 San Francisco
- 3 Sydney
- 2 Melbourne
- 2 Tampa
- 1 Adelaide
Zipperheads forgot to tuck their brains back in before zipping up…You are supposed to do the zipper effect, it will move more cars that way. Unfortunately, no one knows how to properly do it so that is what happens.
Add Cleveland X10, Detroit X20, but I do love NY, go when it's not your turn and you simply get hit or run over. Period.Plenty of it in north Idaho as well.
I believe it was I90 , when I first saw this , it was unbelievable . I'll bet it was miles for a truck to pass another . IT looked like traffic was backed up for miles .
Actually this is incorrect. It doesn't work here because people think like this, but if all the cars move to the point where the lane ends, and the people in the through lane allow them to zipper in an orderly way, the road can carry more cars and there is less delay for EVERYONE. It won't work until people 1. Move all the way forward to merge. 2. People allow them to merge. Probably never going to happen in Oregon or Washington.Zipperheads forgot to tuck their brains back in before zipping up…
Ya see the signs and know there’s a merge…ramming up to the blockage is not the best option…get over sooner and it will go more smoothly.
I have no sympathy for zipperheads that can’t get over at the “front of the line”.

That stretch of interstate between Dallas and Amarillo at 1:00 am. I had a '76' Ford van with a 460 in it and couldn't keep up with those truckers. My poor van topped out at 100 mph...I made pretty good time on I 90 in South Dakota where the speed limit is 80, but many go faster.
Does water flow more smoothly at a blockage?Actually this is incorrect. Agreed. Dallas area drives the fastest I've seen or been a part of.That stretch of interstate between Dallas and Amarillo at 1:00 am. I had a '76' Ford van with a 460 in it and couldn't keep up with those truckers. My poor van topped out at 100 mph...
Amen.
Now I'm going to go do my 36 miles highway commute and stare at a long line of cars stuck behind someone that has a mile of clear road ahead of them doing pace with a single car beside him to the right. Every damn time.

We have no helmet laws in Ohio, yet every year 3/4 MC fatalities are unhelmeted. Some of the most bizarre drivers are in Denver......high speed limits, real “high” drivers, helmets optional for motorcyclists that weave in between cars and guaranteed 4-5 cars will run every red light! But the most amazing things are you hardly see anybody pulled over and no wrecks?? Are they too high and just miss each other??
We don't have those lanes where I live. Thanks God. Left lane is strictly a passing lane. You ride in the left lane you ride with Hitler.. Unless you're passing of course. But we're not talking about that.

That one I have some experience with. Water flows more efficiently through bigger pipe. Period. The more big pipe you have the less friction. The more small pipe, the more friction. Changing lanes early is like cutting off a section of the bigger pipe and replacing it with smaller pipe. Doesn't work to anyones advantage.Does water flow more smoothly at a blockage?
I’ll let ya chew on that one for a while.![]()
Does water flow more easily thru curvy sections or straight? That one I have some experience with. Water flows more efficiently through bigger pipe. Period.
