Oregon Coast

I Love the upper northern Oregon coast. Pacific city to Astoria. Didn’t get to test out my new line set up as I had hoped, first three days was miserable. Heavy rains, constant wind and gusts 60+ But last night I went to bed to this

Then woke up to this….. at 6am ish.

And knew a good day was ahead…. And it was if you like beach walking. (These elk are a grazing-shitting machine. Huge rabbit pellets everywhere)

These things were everywhere on the beach. ‘Vellela vellela

The creeks all along the beach were overflowing from the earlier storms. IMG_2683.jpegIMG_2659.jpeg

This guy followed us around a bit.

While walking I noticed a disturbance among a couple birds and saw this thing flop running about 70-80 yards in front of me. A big healthy sea otter. Hard to see in pic but he worked his way to deeper water and a large rock….

And who lives here?

I bent over to look inside and this thing came roaring out in a high screech scaring the living kaka out of me ….

After 9.5 miles of beach combing settled for this around 3pm at a local pub.

Beautiful day on the northern Oregon coast !!!

I love seeing these pictures. I grew up in Tillamook, and miss it. Don't have family in the area any more, so it has been more than a decade since I have been back. These are great!

We did go to Tilamook Farms and watch them slaughter some 40LB blocks of sharp cheese into small blocks and slices. It was a nasty weather day so a road trip was in order and ice cream sounded good. After the self guided tour of 30ish minutes or less the wife and I ordered a tri-flight. One scoop of Campfire Peanut Butter / Chocolate Chip Mint / Chocolate Waffle Cone ….not bad. Mint was the best tho. I had not been there since covid….they have done a remodel and it is very nice. But I kinda miss the old lay-out and building. The garlic black peppered cheese was so oh my goodness!!!! I exited that building a couple pounds heavier than when I entered. 😉

I worked in the cheese factory for a year after high school but it was about two or three renovations ago in the early 90's. I haven't seen the lay-out or new building. I need to get back over there again.

I lived close to Pacific City back in the later 1970's.
I figured I would never get tired of eating crab, clams, salmon, steelhead, surf perch, etc.
But a good blacktail deer steak is hard to beat

Some of the best seafood is found on the Oregon Northern Coast in MHO…. So many great small fresh fish/crab stops. Pacific City Dory fly fishing is awesome. It’s sad that Pacific City Fly Fishing is done/retired but I figured the father/son combo was on limited time last time there. Rock fish-cod- and raise some traps after a few hours for the crab topper. 2018 is the last year I did the 7 day stay with an Oregon Coast fly fishing dory trip. On the 2nd day we would go fishing/crabbing …. we be supplied for the next few days for fish tacos/ crab-egg breakfast, crab and steak on the bbq, fried rock fish, etc. but the best meal is the fresh cooked crab with a couple ice cold light beers that same afternoon day of fishing 🤤

Jack Harrell is 82 now but he's still going strong. He still sorta kinda has his awesome garage shop which is mostly a place to stop, visit and have a cup of coffee. The shop is rarely "open" but give him a call and if he's around - he'll meet you there.
