On the hunt for giant Columbia River bass🀠

Well the forecast aligned with a free day off for me so I hit the road for a 2.5 hour drive.

I was on the water and fishing by about 730 am. Conditions were perfect. Light wind. Water temps 61ish to start (later warmed up to 65). Prespawn to spawn window.

Ten casts in and a nice blow up:

I flipped up a small smallie and missed a few nibbles before pretty much fishing topwater the rest of the day.

I found the fish in and around cover. Little shade pockets and quiet indents in the cattails where I could place my popper.

Epic battles getting them out of reeds and into my grip.

1000033772.jpg

Had to stay fueled up with a protein snack. This ain't trout fishing.

Carefully I took weights of my top fish. It's a mind game I play where I come up with a 5 fish bag as if I was competing in a tournament.

At one point I doubled back instead of making a big loop and this proved to be a key decision. With a gentle breeze pushing me along I surgically picked apart the cover on my way back. Sometime hitting a shore line from a different angle will let you clean up whats left.

That's a lot of dudes in a tight spot. Put on a show for them.

Fish of the day came out from next to a little patch of cattails. Between the chunk and the reeds off shore.

Oh and here is my top 5 weights of 25 or so bass (3.78, 3.82, 4.34, 4.32, 4.46)=total bag of 20.72 pounds🀠🀠🀠
Hell yeah!

Special thanks to @Jim F. for the intel he has given me on big river bass.

Great stuff, great β€œbag”-o-fish!
Is that 4 or 5 dudes on that casting platform?
Do you still have your bass tracker boat? Not that you need it to find the bass…clearly…

Billy the Bassassinator strikes again!

Billy doing Billy stuff! Nice work man.

That boat...is that a bowfishing setup? There's casting platforms and then there's whatever the hell that is. 😁

Nice day, @Billy !How was the road? Many Terns & Osprey around?

Bow fishing platform. I think it was a guided trip. I like to think mixed group of guys.

"This is Fred. You are going to need to stand really close to him on the front left. 🀣🀣🀣"

Stratos. I think it's 6 dudes. And yeah. Debaiting selling it. I need to use it more...

Solid work and great choice of fishing fuel! Just imagine the mojo boost some fly caught albacore would do for your game. Me thinks Billy needs to get out on the big blue!
Tastes 10x better too. Oh that would be fun to tie Billy into a tuna. Sounds like a job for Evan.

You feel alone out there when the boat traffic dies out.
That's part of the reason I cherished it so. Not all that many years ago, I rarely saw others in there. The Bass version of "Curtis Creek" . . .

Well done sir!!

Always great to explore new waters. Back in my bass fishing days it was always fun to play the game of what my best 5 bass weighted. Even though most of my bass fishing was on Snohomish County lakes it was surprising how often those best 5 would have been competitive in a tournament.
