Olympics Backpacking

Smoke has kept me out of the cascades for the past week. My son, however, reports that the Olympics high country has been smoke free.



He took some brookies in an Olympics high lake on an Adams dry fly.





He even had an unusual audience...

Oh geez. Bears in the OP?

Post that everywhere. Hopefully it helps reduce the number of visitors and especially fisherman on the waters this coming Sept/Oct.

My son said there the college boys in the camp where the bear was headed weren't prepared for the bear's appearance. Would have been fun to watch.

Hopefully the smoke clears out of the cascades soon. Planning a few trips between the 15th and 23rd. Always good to have the Olympics as a fall back.

I asked my son today to tell me more about the college bros and the bear. He said the conversation went sort of like this.

College Bros: "There's a bear in our camp. What do we do."

Park Ranger who happened to be in the basin observing the bear: "Where is your food?"

Long pause.

College Bros: "In our tents."

Park Ranger: "Oooooh boy."
