Olympics 2024

I will always prefer team sports. The dynamic of being on a team and playing with other players seperates those sports from gymnastics or pole vaulting etc.
It was great to see our Women's soccer team play so well. Emma Hayes has succesfully pulled off an "on the fly" youth movement while winning on the biggest stage. The 3 forwards are electric and far more creative than the old guard was. Rodman is in amazing condition. She plays the game from end line to end line.
The midfielders are aggressive, strong and complemenet each other well and the roster is deep enough to withstand the loss of Coffey for a game. Girma has been as steady as can be and which lets Dunn get up the field and lets them outnumber the opposition in the midfield. Our women were by far the better team yesterday, regardless of Foudy's constant negative outlook while calling the game. Our woman's national team outshot Germany, had 8 less fouls, 2 less yellows (and it should have been more IMO), and outpossesed Germany 58% to 42%.
On to the finals vs. Brazil.

I'm enjoying watching Ducks compete, especially in hoops where there are 5 in the women's and at least one in the men's . So far one gold in hoops and a gold in track, Hocker in the 1500. In women's hoops, one played for Spain, one for France, two for Germany, and Sabrina Ionescu for the USA.. I'm confident there will be another Gold at the end. By the way the Huskies have a star player in hoops as well, Kelsey Plum and I'm a fan.

Kerr having Davis bring the ball up the court while having Curry play forward instead of guard position? Appears LeBron having a lot of influence on their set's, with Curry unable to get into a three roll due to his position and not getting many passes...this thing blows up, Kerr and team will need towels for the face custard

Been thinking a lot about why the Olympics just don't excite me near like they used to. And I think I figured it out. It used to be special because it only happens every 4 years which is still true. BUT what's changed over the years is how all these sports have annual and even more frequent major events anymore PLUS with the advent of all the various sports channels you get to see them all the time. Back in the day you rarely saw most of these sports on TV unless it was for the Olympics. So it was a once every 4 years treat. Now its still special but eh not anywhere like it used to be.

You watch way too much tv. Lol.

USA men’s team steals one in the last two minutes against Serbia… best basketball game in the Olympics…so far. Being down by 17 at one time, I honestly thought they were going to lose the way Serbia was shooting the three and defending.

no-stop 24/7/365 sports of every nature accompanied by ad nauseam color bits will do that ...and during the Cold War years of the USA vs the USSR, the Olympics had a much more serious gravitas to them...

and than they turned Curry loose, who went 9 of 14 from 3...

Stoked for Curry to get rolling in the most important moment of his first Olympics. That would have been an embarrassing loss.

I love how the Olympics brings us together as a country. Left or Right, we all root together. Not a lot else does that these days.
I'd love to agree with your last sentence but I have seen too many referees make "interesting" calls against US competitors. Bottom line, there is a ton of politics and its divisiveness going on in most if not all of the Olympic events.

I was talking about US fans. Doesn't matter if its Basketball or the most random sport out there, we are all yelling at our TVs for the US guy/girl to win!

What an ending to the hoops game!

I was out running errands when Sydney ran, so I am looking forward to watching the replay of her race tonight.

A tough loss for one of the US wrestlers. He was up 3-2 with about a minute or so to go and lost in the very last seconds, 4-2.

Was nice to see our runners pick up some medals they were not expected to.

GO USA!

That was a GREAT game...at least the last bit I caught. Nice to see Curry wake up. It was just a matter of time, and timing was perfect.

Serbia played as well as they could. They hit shots and really worked their tails off. Kudos to them for playing so well.

Embiid is difficult for me to watch at times. He is stationary without the ball. He is a remarkable talent and a huge body. He just seems to fade in and out of the game. Curry and James played great. I sure do wish James was not so easily distracted by officiating or the opposition. I would think at 38 years old, he would have figured that out. Curry is a constant reminder that good guys can in fact win.

I think that Tatum could have helped by getting to the hoop and drawing people. They just watched Curry in the 1st half and did not even get him the best looks. He did it on his own. Playing more than 10 players is difficult in a 40 minute game though. Tatum, Durant and Edwards are essentially the same player for the purpose of a rotation. So in order to get Tatum in, you would need to quickly determine after 1 substitution that Edwards is going to stuggle or that he can guard the 4 as well as Bam. Bam was objectively bad, but he only got 10 minutes. It's hard to fault Kerr for not playing Tatum, even if I think that he should have.

This is the perfect format for Embiid…play fewer minutes so he can not worry about pacing himself (you have The Brow and Bam coming off the bench)…but he’s gotta quit thinking he’s a 3point shooter…

I don’t think Tatum, Durant & Edwards are very much alike role-wise…if I have to chose between the three to take the last shot in any game, clearly it’s Durant…the most athletic of the three is Edwards…but I think Tatum is the better defender & rebounder of them, and I wished he played more during the games…
